NIGHT LET THE MUSIC wash over her, the beat throbbing through her bones. As it pulsed through her blood, it shoved aside the headache and pushed out the lassitude of a millennium of imprisonment. Even with her eyes closed, the lights sent flashes across her retinas. She breathed in deeply. Starved as she was, the mix of sweat and s*x and freedom was intoxicating. She was almost afraid to feed: once she started, she might not be able to stop. A shiver down her spine. She exhaled with a soft sigh and opened her eyes. Her gums ached and her blood burned as the hunger coursed through her veins. The veritable buffet laid out all around almost left her paralyzed. Scanning the club, she sought her first mark.
