Moonlight

Chapter 8

Aime POV

Today was my last day resting up per doctor’s orders. I was pretty excited, I actually got up pretty early, to my surprise. I decided I would go down to the kitchen and grab something to eat. Then I would probably go explore and enjoy my day of rest. I walked down to the kitchen and saw all the staff scrambling about. They explained they were preparing for breakfast, and they had to get food ready for about 200 people, I guess the pack was huge. I decided to help, I had nothing better to do anyway, they graciously allowed me to make some pancakes. It was not much, but I felt useful. I managed to finish quite a few dozen of them and just in time too. A bunch of wolves, which I was told were the warriors, began to arrive. I guess my pancakes were a success, I never knew I could make something so good. It honestly made me feel a little proud.

By the time it was around 8 am I decided I would go ahead and head out. I had already spent a few hours in the kitchen. When I started to pack a little lunch for later and told the staff I would probably be in the gardens, they showed me a little door in the back. It was small, but it led directly to the spot Danilo and I had sat on the bench the night before. It was almost as if they knew I needed it, because as I was heading to walk out the main kitchen doors, I smelled the most amazing smell, rain. Alex was walking into the dining area. I never saw Alex, I just recognized him from the smell and Anya doing a happy dance in my head. I refused to see him, as if that would make the pain he would make me feel more bearable or maybe as payback for it, as if he cared or even knew I was in pain.

I had heard some she-wolfs talk about Alex, how good he was in bed and how he did not want a mate, while I was going out to the gardens yesterday with Danilo. I was not sure why it bothered me so much I had never even met the guy, who was I to him really? I mean just a mate, but really we had not even met, so he owed me no explanations or anything, yet here I was feeling a bit.. Umm jealous? And hurt. I knew at some point we would have to talk, but for now I was planning on enjoying my rest day.

I backed away from the door and went out the little kitchen door. Phew, I escaped! I found myself staying hidden in the garden for hours. I had brought my phone with me, even though I had no service it still was able to play my music. I was surrounded by beautiful flowers and music, what more could I ask for. It was about 2 pm when I decided to go back inside. I decided to go in through the little kitchen door and see what the staff was doing. I guess they were about done with lunch, so I figured there would not be many people in the dining room. I was correct, but to my surprise Danilo and another guy were there talking to a group of people, it seemed they were looking for something. I figured Alex would not be near them since I could not smell him. I decided to come out of the Kitchen and approach them. I guess they were looking for me. Sigh.

“There you are! I’ve been looking all over for you since breakfast!” Danilo said with a relieved face

“Sorry! I was hiding in the gardens.” I replied

“I looked there for you, but did not see you. I probably did not look hard enough!” He chuckled, scratching his neck. “Oh, Aime, meet Scott, he is the Gamma of the pack”

“Hi, nice to meet you!” I said, extending my hand. Scott was taller than Danilo, same olive skin, but light blue eyes and blonde hair. He was very handsome and muscular, although Danilo seemed more built.

“Well, well, well” He said, eyeing me up and down. “So you are the little trouble maker that has Alex all turned to mush.” He chuckled. I smiled, but had no idea what he was talking about.

“Will you be there tomorrow too to help me train?” I asked in anticipation for my training tomorrow and changing the subject.

“Um.. sure.” He said looking over to Danilo with concern. “Is Alex ok with her training?” He whispered to him.

“I don’t really care.” Danilo responded with a shrug. Why would Alex care?

“Speaking of which, you better tell him we found her, or he’s going to lose his mind.. I mean more than he’s already lost it.” Suddenly I panicked. He is not coming over is he?

“Well nice meeting you Scott. I’ll just head up to my room. Bye!” They just looked at each other, Danilo nodded and his eyes glazed over. I ran out of there and to my room locking the door behind me. Phew, safe!

‘Why are you nervous? Don’t you want to meet mate?’ Anya said with a little sadness in her voice.

‘I think you know. I guess I am afraid he will reject me the moment he sees me. Plus it still kinda hurts what we heard yesterday. I know it is not fair for me to expect so much from him, but I am just so afraid...’ I started to tear up. ‘It’s ok little moonlight, but remember what I told you, ok.’ Anya didn’t let me finish. ‘I know I have to meet him at some point, I just… I don’t know. I feel like there would be too much pressure to meet him right now, so I would like to wait until I feel more comfortable here.’ She nodded in my head.

I just stayed in my room for the rest of the afternoon until the evening came. I had seen some very beautiful vines, which I suspect are moonflowers and they only bloom at night. I wanted to go down and see. I prepared myself a cup of chai tea and headed down. It was around 10 pm at night so there was not a lot of movement in the house. I knew I could not stay out too long since I had training with Danilo in the morning
