ETHAN
I sat in my office, staring at the stack of files in front of me. Elsie's father, Santiago Wilder, had been a complex man, with many secrets and enemies. But I was determined to uncover the truth behind his death.
As I delved deeper into the files, I discovered a web of deceit and corruption that went far beyond what I had initially suspected. It seemed that Santiago had been involved in a bitter power struggle within the organization, and his murder was just the tip of the iceberg.
I knew I had to tell Elsie the truth, but I was hesitant. She was still reeling from her father's death, and I didn't want to add to her pain.
But as I looked at her, I knew I had to be honest. She deserved to know the truth, no matter how difficult it was, so I decided to send her a text message to meet me in my office.
"Elsie, we need to talk," I said, my voice firm but gentle immediately I saw opening the door to my office.
She looked up at me, her eyes questioning. "What is it, Ethan?"
I took a deep breath. "I've been investigating your father's death, and I've uncovered some disturbing information."
Her eyes narrowed. "What kind of information?"
I hesitated, unsure of how to reveal the truth. "It seems that your father was involved in a power struggle within the organization. He had many enemies, and his murder was just the beginning."
Elsie's face paled, and she looked like she had been punched in the gut. "What do you mean?"
I sighed. "I mean that your father's death was not just a random act of violence. It was a calculated move to eliminate him and take control of the organization."
Elsie's eyes flashed with anger. "Who did it?"
I hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "I'm not sure yet, but I'm working on it."
Elsie's face set in determination. "I want to help. I want to find out who killed my father and make them pay."
I nodded, impressed by her strength. "I'll let you help, but you have to promise me one thing."
"What's that?"
"You have to promise me you'll stay safe. I don't want anything to happen to you."
Elsie nodded, her eyes locked on mine. "I promise."
As we shook hands, I knew that our partnership was sealed. Together, we would uncover the truth and bring justice to those responsible.
But as we delved deeper into the investigation, I knew that we were playing with fire. The organization was ruthless, and they would stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.
I just hoped that we could uncover the truth before it was too late.
