A friend in the Afterlife

924 Words
Susan found herself on a vast field with trees all around. "Is this the afterlife?" She thought to herself. She never imagined it to be so beautiful and peaceful. She always thought it would be gloomy and a land of vast nothingness. Then she thought to herself. "Then where are the Fates? "This place looks very different from where I was the last time. Something must be fishy here!" Then she began to hear what sounded like crowds of people from a far distance. Suddenly she was swept off her feet by a force and taken towards the place where the noise was coming from. She was dropped on a bridge that had thousands and thousands of people trudging on. She was instinctively placed within these people and she continued trudging along with them. On both sides of the bridge were two different scenes. One was a vast land of nothingness, something she expected to see, while the other was a lush green paradise, with all the beautiful things anyone could imagine. All of a sudden she found out that they were actually on the line facing huge gates. At the front of the line, she noticed that some people were directed left towards the vast nothingness, while some others who directed right towards Paradise. "Could this be judgment?" she thought to herself. "All those disillusioned people who spoke of judgment after death were right!" So judgment is real?" She said out loud. "Yes, it is," said a female voice from behind her. She turned around to see an aged woman standing right behind her on the line. "I never knew we would still be able to talk to each other here". Susan said "Apparently we can". The Old lady replied, smiling at Susan's realization. "For some reason, you look awfully familiar!" Susan said. "It seems like I knew you when I was alive". Susan said, trying to recollect her memory. The old lady smiled and said. "I've lived many lives and maybe you knew, one of them". Susan wondered what she meant by that statement. But it was irrelevant they were already dead and were about to know what their fates would be in the afterlife. Since it was a long line and they were thousands and thousands of people ahead of them, Susann and the old lady decided to engage in a discussion about their lives on earth just to kill time. Susan told the woman so many stories from her childhood, about how she became a full-time Timekeeper, even up to her pretending to be The White Angel and her attempt to kill the Angel de la Muerte. She told the old lady about how she fell in love with Antonio de Castillo, and all the ordeals they had been through up to this moment, and how she had sacrificed her life for Antonia. The woman looked at her lovingly and said "Anton couldn't have picked anybody better than you to fall in love with and beer his child". "How did you know, that's what I used to call him? Susan asked with a surprised look on her face. Susan told her about Lord Murillo and his wife duchess Murillo and how they took her son Antonio Junior from her. She told her all that had happened and how she never got to see her son again before she died. The woman said to her. "My daughter, most of the time, everything is not as it seems, some things happen without our control". "Tell me about your life!" Susan said expectantly. "I'm sure there's so much to tell and you had a fulfilling life". The old lady then went ahead to tell Susan about her own life, from her childhood she was also a Timekeeper who fell in love with and married a powerful Watchman. She told Susan about how she had a son for this Watchman whom they both loved dearly. But unfortunately, she was forcefully taken and remarried to an even more powerful Watchman, who would have killed her son and her first husband. If not for the fact that she married him. She stayed for Love. Staying with him was the only way she could keep her son safe. Her first husband disappeared and she never saw or heard from him again. She only heard rumors so many years later that he settled somewhere in Africa. She also told Susan about her grandchild, how much she loved him and was privileged to get to know him and take care of him for a short period before her death. Susan could see the love in her eyes as she spoke of these things. " How did you die then?" Susan asked. " I was betrayed, but by whom, I don't know". she replied with a sad expression on her face. "I hope someone can avenge your death someday," Susan said. "I do hope so". The old lady replied Susan. They both had no idea how long they had been conversing, and that the line was moving quite fast. " Next!" A voice called out, alerting Susan that she was next in line for judgment. "It's your turn Susan dear. The old lady said. " How do you know my name?" Susan asked with an inquisitive look on her face. "Good luck my dear.." The Old lady said with a smile on her face. Susan nervous walked towards the man standing in from of her. "State your name?" The man asked. "Susan Boyle" She nervously replied... Her judgment had begun!
