Fifty-Six Jackson got out of the ATV and approached the makeshift camp outside Brimfield’s walls. A full patrol of wardens, suited up and with helmets on, stepped up to bar his path. ‘Let him through,’ came the voice of Captain Landry. She strode over and gave Jackson a nod. ‘Captain Landry, I see the Brimfield Council put out the welcome mat for you.’ He inclined his head toward the closed town gates. Landry wore a cool smile. ‘It was as you said it would be. Councillor Dillon refused to let us enter. But I’m guessing he’s come to regret that decision.’ ‘You’re blockading the town?’ ‘Not quite. We’re not stopping anyone from entering or leaving Brimfield, only supplies. I’m guessing, with the number of travellers heading this way, things are getting desperate right about now.’ Jack
