Forty-Seven Jackson followed Carstairs to the mine, liking what he had seen so far from the young warden as they traversed the large complex. He’d seemed to take being socked in the jaw by Hanson in his stride, with no sign he harboured ill feelings about being suspected of the attack on Hannah. They reached the mine and Carstairs produced a key for the padlock securing the barred entrance. The coolness of the mine seeped into him as soon as he stepped inside. Dim lighting hung from steel support beams that criss-crossed the ceiling and illuminated rusted tracks on the ground. The supports beams looked in too good a condition to be original, presumably put in place by the Legion. Jackson and Carstairs travelled past the entrance to smaller offshoot tunnels, all of them barred and locked
