Juliana's POV
“Julie we have another order at table four, can you get it for me!!!” John yelled from the back. Usually, it doesn’t get crowded till like 7 but today the whole restaurant was packed with a lot of families
Maybe because it’s Thanksgiving weekend and a lot of people have their relatives coming over. “You know I can’t be here for this long” I reminded John as soon as I went behind the counter
He gave me that “pity look” that makes you just guilty and not want to say no.” Fine one more hour and that’s it “ I said, giving him a stern look.
“Thanks, I owe you a lot” He replied, coming in for a hug, but I used my hand and playfully jabbed him at his chest to stop him from hugging me and turned around.
I changed out of my work uniform into regular clothes. I glanced at the clock and realized how late I was. I picked up my bag and started sprinting down the street. “I’m so gonna be dead today,” I thought to myself.

I stood in front of the door with shaky hands, I rang the doorbell, took in deep breaths, and tried to remain calm. “You’re late, Miss Kingston “ the deep voice brought me back to reality
“I-“ I opened my mouth to give an excuse but nothing came out, I lowered my head and apologized silently. “ It’s your first day and you already gave me a bad impression, “ the man said.
“ But I trust my instincts and my instincts chose you so don’t make me regret this” he added coldly and moved aside so I could step in. The house was finely decorated and screamed rich. I tried not to touch anything to avoid messing up big time.
“Sean, true! Come down now.” He roared, startling me. Two adorable children came running down and they hugged their dad first then stared at me like I was a ghost or something.
“This is Miss Kingston, your new tutor,” he said. “What happened to our last one?” Sean asked. He didn’t seem like he was ready for a change.
” He’s unavailable at the moment, but for now, she’ll be tutoring you. Be on your best behavior and Daddy loves you” With that he kissed their forehead and left the house.
I sighed.” This is gonna be a tough one I said to myself.
I exaggerated, they weren’t so bad after all. At first, it was awkward and weird but I did my charm like always, and soon enough they warmed up to me and made the whole tutoring interesting and easy.
Their dad came back and paid me and we scheduled another session with them.
***************
“You look tired, why don’t you rest?” my fragile aunt who was already a shadow of her former self said in a low tone. Sitting on the bed beside her, I smiled softly and used the wet towel to clean her forehead.
“You didn’t stop caring for me so why should I ?” I said, trying not to cry. She held my hand and smiled softly at me” It’s okay to cry, you don’t have to hold it “.
With that, I leaned on her shoulder and started sobbing. She rubbed my back and whispered “It’s okay, stop worrying too much “, after a while I sat up and dried my eyes
Sniffing my catarrh back in my nose I stood up and microwaved the leftover soup that she hadn’t finished yesterday and served her a cup of water.
I was about to bring out her meds from the drawer when the vibration of my phone made me jump. I checked to see an unknown caller and I found it weird.
I hardly received any calls or texts from anyone so I couldn’t even guess who would be calling. I just decided to ignore it. Maybe it was a mistake but my hand did otherwise.
“Hello?” I said in a very low tone, “Hi Julie, it’s me, Lily!”
********************
“Here we are “ the cab driver announced, bringing me back to reality. Lily Adams, the only child of Micheal Adams who runs one of the biggest makeup brands in the world, and my best friend and only friend.
“I know we have a lot to talk about and I have a lot to explain, but please can you just come meet me at my hotel “ Her words replayed in my head for like the thousandth time.
She still sounded the same as it was during high school. It’s been years since I last saw her and I’d be lying to myself if I said that I didn’t miss her at all. That’s why I agreed to come meet her.
I pulled out my phone from my back pocket and checked the address that Lily sent to me to see if I was in the right place.
Stepping into the hotel, I saw Lily in the lobby on her phone and smiling as if she just won the lottery. She still looked as hot as I saw her last with her flawless skin and perfect white teeth.
“Julie!!!!!!” She screamed the moment her eyes landed on mine. I tried to smile back at her but I couldn’t bring myself to, so I just let her hug me instead.
We had a long conversation about everything, why she left, how she’s been, how I’ve been, and everything. “ I’m just so glad you’re alright and alive” she joked while wiping her tears. I chuckled while sniffing my catarrh back in.
After she forced me to have dinner, she decided to escort me back home but I didn’t want her to know where I was heading so I protested against it, but again she won after so much pleading.
“Look Julie, I have a request to make,” she said when we got into the car. “ What again?” I groaned. “Uhm ... there's this auction tomorrow evening and I want you to accompany me,” she said looking down. “No,” I said almost immediately.
“I know how much rich people disgust you that is why you’d be getting paid to attend,” she said smiling. I know how much I wanted to not go but I couldn’t resist the fact that it involved money. “Fine, just this one time,” I said and silently prayed that I didn’t regret this.
