The Lost Samurai

Chapter 11 - A girl in need.

Meanwhile in the Setting Sun village, the village that reported giant wolves near.

"Hey hey my love, do you see this flower? It's beautiful right? It's a rose, but don't touch it cause it has thorns." A young couple was taking a stroll around their garden, the husband was holding their only daughter while the mother showed her all the beautiful things in the garden.

The father was grateful for his current life, being married for 3 years to the woman he loves and now having a daughter with her who was almost turning one, he worked hard every day and got to his home to receive lots of love from both

Meanwhile the mother also couldn't be happier, with her husband always protecting and bringing the money to their family and her taking care of the kid and feeding everyone they had a perfect situation, she knew they would have lots of other kids and live a happy and long life.

Suddenly loud noises catched the couple's attention and they turned their heads to face the commotion, several persons running towards their neighborhood as fast as they could and screaming desperately.

"Women and kids, run! Men, come with us and fight! The pack of wolves started getting aggressive before they expected, they're attacking our village!" The father looked at his wife and daughter and his face became serious.

Giving both a kiss before heading for the fight he was terrified but he knew it was his duty as a father, even if he died just by gaining some minutes he could make sure his family escaped.

"Aaaegh!" Getting his arm ripped in two by a giant wolf a man that was using a spear to fight screamed in pain.

"Take this! This! Aarrgh!" Another man stabbed a wolf with his sword and punched it's face but got bitten in the chest and screamed before dying.

A skilled fighter was killing wolves and helping others, he was almost getting to the level of a real swordsman so killing 3 or 4 wolves was no problem, even with the big pack he was still holding his ground even while tired.

Swinging his sword and carefully controlling his chi he cut a wolf in two pieces and parried the attacks of another one, but a third one jumped him getting to bite his torso, soon a fourth and a fifth one jumped, the father tried to help him together with another man but they got there only after he was dead.

"Let's at least kill as many wolves as possible and stall them, we will die but our families will live!" The mayor started a courageous speech but soon a wolf reached him and killed him in no time.

Using a spear the father killed the wolf while it was biting the mayor, but got his back slashed open by another one's claws.

While his vision turned red from all the blood and his life dwindled the father saw all the other fathers, his friends and family, all fighting without fearing death for their families, for the sake of the village, but even with all their struggles the wolves finished too fast leaving no time for the women and children to run!

The last tear in his life rolled down his cheeks as the father saw the wolves heading towards the village.

Seeing the wolves coming the mother did her best not to cry thinking about her husband, she needed to be strong to save her lil baby, heading towards her home she opened a pot and placed her daughter inside it.

"Hey dear, don't make any sounds ok? Be quiet, mom and dad will get you soon, it's for your safety." Running outside she was jumped by a wolf that killed her in no time, the wolves then headed inside the house after smelling another human there, but not being able to find it they just went to catch the others.

"Noo! Why did the bandits had to attack that other village? We're late!" Hori killed the wolves as fast as she could and Kenshin showed some tears that were a rare sight while slashing the wolves, they were able to kill the whole pack but probably almost everyone in the village was dead.

They searched around for a good time looking for survivors, some women and their kids were alive, not more than 10 survivors.

Searching around the houses looking for more survivors Kenshin and Hori were happy to hear the sound of a young kid crying and ran guided by the sound.

Entering a house with a few marks of claws they discovered the origin of the crying sound, it was coming from a big pot and when they opened it, a small kid was inside.

The moment they looked at her the kid stopped crying and her eyes instantly focused on Kenshin while she smiled widely.

"Dada! Dada!" She seemed so happy that it was almost impossible to describe, and her cuteness instantly melted Kenshin's heart.

"Ok ok, I'm not your dad but I can hold you while we find him ok?" Finding such a beautiful image in this tragedy Kenshin couldn't help but smile, holding this little girl who called him dad as he went outside the house.

"Hehe Kenshin, the little girl really liked you, I will let her be in your arms because she's still too young to be my competitor. Her parents were really smart to think about this in such a situation, and the little girl really well behaved, she didn't start crying until all the wolves were gone." Hori patted the girl's head a bit but when she put her finger close to the baby's mouth she got a painful bite.

After searching around a bit more they found all the survivors, an old lady, two young ladies and some small kids.

"Hi ma'am, may I ask you who this kid's parents are?" Kenshin approached the oldest person in the group as she probably knew everyone in the village, showing the baby in his arms she quickly looked at her.

"That little girl is the first daughter of a young couple here in this village, Carol and Hiro were the parents' names, sadly they are both dead now, the kid has no parents." The old lady explained the situation and both Kenshin and Hori were a bit down after hearing this, an orphan with this age, it was so sad.

"But, i think i know someone who could be her new father, the little girl really started liking you mister Kenshin, i bet she would be sad without her, take her and raise her properly." The old lady was smiling seeing the little girl kiss Kenshin's cheeks and rub her nose against his forehead, her eyes denouncing the joy she was feeling at that moment.

"M-me? But I don't have any experience raising kids, and the missions I go to are dangerous." Kenshin gulped and didn't like the idea, he really thought this girl was cute and she loved him, but raising her was a different thing, he wouldn't be able to do it properly.

"Experience isn't really needed, you only need to try and you will learn, it's not like her parents had any previous experience too, and yet they have done their job well, and about dangerous things, normal parents died while trying to protect her, but you can protect her from literally anything, there's no danger by your side." The old lady was laughing internally at this young man's reactions, but she knew he would be a good father.

"Well...well, I accept! I will try to be a good father, what about you little girl, will you accept me as your new daddy? I won't be taking the place of your dad, I will just be a second one to help finish what he started raising you until you are a strong adult woman." Kenshin knew he wasn't the most qualified, nor was he the best example, but he would try to be a good example and try to learn what he needed to learn because this little kid really melted his heart and he would be sad to part ways with her now.

"Dada! Dada!" Kenshin had to hold her tightly because the baby was jumping around with happiness hearing this, it was almost like she could understand everything.
