One evening, exactly a week later, I finished my last surgery of the day and headed home to my apartment. The second I stepped out of the elevator, I spotted Ethan's parents hunkered down right outside my front door. Both of them looked gaunt and worn thin. I froze in surprise for a beat. "Mr. and Mrs. Wright," I said, "what are you two doing here..." The second Sophia caught sight of me, she shot straight to her feet, and tears came flooding down her face right away. "Mia, we're really out of options here..." she sobbed. "Ethan's condition has gotten worse," she continued. "His doctor said we need to transfer him to a hospital in Brentwick as soon as possible.
