Chapter 6: Unspeakable
"Mom, what if Yan Huan goes crazy and kills Lu Yi? Would the old man still recognize her as his granddaughter-in-law?"
"Do you want Lu Yi dead?"
"Mom, don't you? With me in the Lu family, that's enough. Lu Shuyun has suppressed you all your life, and her son has always overshadowed me since he was young. In this world, it's either him or me, it's either me or him."
"Mom, rest assured, I've thought everything through. Such an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone, only a fool would let it slip away. Solve two major issues at once, and then we can sleep soundly forever."
The voices of the mother and son echoed in Yan Huan's ears time and again.
She had always known that Lu Qin and the Lu family were at odds, but she never imagined that one day, he could be so depraved. They wanted to kill Lu Yi and frame her for it.
Yan Huan had truly been blind in this life. How could she have fallen in love with such a wolf in sheep's clothing? Lu Qin could no longer be described as heartless; he was a beast, a demon.
That night, there seemed to be a red moon in the sky. The red moon, amidst the dimness of the room, also cast a blood-red glow. The entire Lu family was unusually quiet today. She knew why; Lu Qin had used an excuse to send all the Lu family members away, and today, he was going to make his move.
Yan Huan emerged from around the corner, her forehead covered in sweat, one hand clutching her abdomen, with visible bloodstains on her hand.
Using the experience she had gained as an actress, she climbed over the stairs and then, with a determined heart, jumped down. The moment she landed, she instinctively curled up her body and rolled forward. But another sharp pain in her abdomen made her gasp for air. She heard footsteps descending the stairs, stood up, and found her palms sticky with blood. Looking down at her hands, they were covered in it.
Her eyelashes trembled, and she ran forward.
Gently, she pushed open a door. Thankfully, it was not locked.
She took a step forward, and the pain in her abdomen made her gasp again.
"Lu Yi," Yan Huan covered her abdomen with one hand and shook him with the other.
"Lu Yi..." She shook him again, but he still showed no signs of waking. At that moment, the door made a sound, and she even heard Lu Qin's voice.
"The door is locked."
Soon after, there seemed to be some movement by the door; they were opening it.
Yan Huan's hand holding the phone trembled. It was Lu Yi's phone left on the table. She wanted to call the police, but the line seemed to be busy. She covered her mouth forcefully to keep herself calm, and finally, she found a name in Lu Yi's phone contacts, Lei Qingyi. It had to be him; there was no time left.
She pressed the call button, but just as the other side rang once, the doorknob seemed to turn.
Now, she had two choices. One, hide under the bed. No one would know she was there, but from then on, she would bear the responsibility for Lu Yi's life and the crime of absconding. She didn't think she could bear it.
She hadn't killed anyone; she hadn't done anything; she wouldn't confess.
The other option...
She turned around, and suddenly, her heart ached, even more painfully than the wound in her abdomen.
Then she pulled back the blanket and lay down inside, reaching out to hold this unconscious man tightly. This was the first time she had been so close to him. His body was warm, so different from his face and temperament. The aura he carried used to scare her, but now it felt reassuring. Even if all this would lead to her own death shortly after.
The door creaked open, and the sound of soft footsteps reached her ears.
Soon after, the footsteps gathered by the bed, along with two slightly disordered breaths. Yan Huan gripped the pajamas on Lu Yi's body tightly. The warmth of his body almost burned her skin.
If she moved slightly, making a sound, would they be scared? But she didn't dare. She was afraid that Lu Qin would go too far and kill them both.
Suddenly, a corner of the blanket was lifted, and a hand reached out, touching her back. The hand was warm, but it felt as cold as a venomous snake, bringing the proximity of death.
Then a sharp pain suddenly struck her back. She stifled a whimper, bit down hard on her colorless lips, and then another stab. She widened her eyes, long lashes suddenly rolling down tears, accompanied by the blood from her bitten lips, yet she never let out a sound.
The knife stabbed again, her muscles initially spasming, and finally, she became numb. Her eyelashes closed, and she couldn't feel any pain.
Suddenly, a furious voice sounded beside her: "Lu Yi, you bastard, what the hell are you doing in the middle of the night?" With a snap, the knife in Lu Qin's hand fell to the ground. He hastily covered the blanket and fled in panic. Then she could no longer support herself and closed her eyes...
