Faith's heart was racing as she slammed the door open to the basement of the church.
"Faith? Are you ok?" Pastor Dave yelled as she ran past, making a beeline for the restroom door.
She didn't know what to do. She wanted to race out and tell Pastor Dave what she had just witnessed. She wanted to run home and not see anyone. She wanted to punch Billy for being a redneck. She wanted to yell at God for being so confusing. Mostly though, she just wished it was her kissing Vanessa, and not Carly.
I'm not a lesbian! I can't be a lesbian! Her mind shuddered at the possibility of eternal damnation.
She heard a knock on the door.
"Faith, can I come in?" It was Vanessa.
Without knowing what else to do, Faith unlocked the restroom door. Vanessa slipped in.
"Look, I'm sorry for what you saw out there," Vanessa continued, "we were just messing around. Exploring. One thing led to another...and I..."
Faith cut her friend off as she closed her eyes and went in - smack! - for a kiss. She could still taste the musky scent of Carly on Vanessa's lips.
Vanessa jerked her head back.
"Faith, are you – sure?"
Nodding, Faith leaned in and kissed her friend again. It was just like the Katy Perry song she accidentally listened to sometimes! Indeed, Faith kissed a girl - and liked it!
Vanessa let herself go and the lifelong friends embraced as their kisses turned to tongues. Faith kept her eyes closed and savored every moment of the experience.
Finally she whispered softly in Vanessa's ear: "Vanessa, can I ask you a question?"
"Of course."
"Didn't Christ say to love – everyone?"
"He did," Vanessa replied.
"Do you think it's ok then, if I love you?" Faith asked timidly.
Vanessa smiled, "I think it is."
"Can this be our secret? Can you do to me what you did to Carly - and can you show me how to do that to you?" Faith inquired.
"I can. I would love to."
The girls kissed again.
Leaving the restroom, Faith noticed Carly had returned to her fiance's side. She was sheepishly staring at the floor.
"Pastor Dave," Faith said, "can I ask you a question?"
"Of course."
"Would it be ok if Vanessa and I left early tonight? I'm kind of emotional and she wants to show me something outside..." Her voice trailed off.
Vanessa interjected: "I want to show Faith my own special little spot."
Carly's face darted up unexpectedly as she began to grin.
"I think that's a great idea, Vanessa. I'm sure Faith would love that." Carly replied on behalf of Pastor Dave. She added, "In fact, I know Faith will love that."
Pastor Dave looked confused, smiling at the girls as they left.
Holding hands as they crossed the church parking lot, Vanessa said: "you know Faith, I've been thinking."
"Yes?"
"Well, didn't God give Noah the rainbow sign?"
"Yes. He did." Faith replied.
As they entered the cornfield and headed towards the blanket still fresh with the scent of love, Vanessa said, "well, every time you see a rainbow I want you to think about me. About us. About love."
"I will. I promise." Faith replied, smiling at the thought of their love.
Maybe bringing Vanessa to Bible Study was a good idea after all! Faith thought to herself as they reached the blanket and laid down under the stars. Without saying a word, Faith let herself go fully. She closed her eyes and allowed Vanessa to lead their way into the dark of night...
Feeling Vanessa's tongue reach her womanhood, Faith let out a sigh of relief. She realized a profound thought at that moment: I love the sinner...and I love the sin!
