Chapter 2

Chapter 2 My eyes burn as I had been staring at my laptop for the past several minutes. Tarryn flops onto my bed and I gasp. “Tarryn, what have I told you about pouncing on me when I’m in my own bubble?” “Invasion of privacy… you could die…” she shrugs and rolls her eyes. “Anyway, I’m here for another reason. You wanted to make extra money, right.” Here comes another one of her extravagant ideas that could either lead to me dying, or ending up in jail. "Well, I have the perfect way for you to make extra change in your pocket; you could be a surrogate mother.” I slam my hand onto my face. “Well that’s helpful, note the sarcasm, Tarryn.” “I mean, think about it, you’ve always wanted to have children.” “Yeah, but not this way, Tarryn… would you want to carry a foetus and voluntarily hand it over, after your whole mind, body and soul has fallen in love with it? Exactly.” I stand up. “Rosalie, I didn’t mean it like that.” “I need some fresh air.” … “Fancy seeing you here,” “Miss Rosalie,” Hunter tugs at my black leggings and I kneel beside him. I avert my gaze to the blood-stained bandage wrapped around his wrist. “Hunter, buddy, would you leave me and Miss Rosalie to have a quick chat?” Hunter nods and runs towards the play-area. “Whatever you think happened get that idea out of your head.” “I’m not thinking anything.” “Yes you are, you’re thinking that I’ve been hurting him, which I haven’t, he fell into a vase.” “Even I know that’s not true. Whatever you have been making him do, quit it, or I will inform the school and they will investigate the case. And I know for a fact that you’re not incapable of watching that child, Iron.” “Look at you, throwing threats at me. I’m not afraid of you, Rosalie. I own this town and every being living in it. I will destroy your precious school and turn it into a strip club. That includes each jewel you love.” “Is that why you’re destroying Hunter?” he looks taken back by the question and tightly grips the glass. “Uncle Iron, I’m hungry.” Hunter sits next to him and rests his head on his shoulder. I smile. “I’ll leave you two now, bye Hunter.” Hunter smiles and blows me a kiss. Monday quickly arrives and I quietly sat at my desk stalking Iron’s ** profile. Marie, my assistant, taps my shoulder and I glance at my now emptied classroom. “Miss Rosalie, is it okay if I leave now? Master Santiago’s still here.” I nod and shut my laptop off. “Yes, Marie, I’ll see you tomorrow.” She nods and smiles before leaving. I look at Hunter who hadn’t even said several words today. “Hey, Hunter…” he continues to draw Iron as a superhero with flames burning from his palms. “Anything you want to share?” “Uncle Iron says he is sending me to Italy.” “Why? Who’s there?” “My mommy.” I nod and slide my hand through his hair. “But I told him you’re my mommy. You’re the only mommy I need. You’re the only mommy I want, Miss Rosalie.” “Hunter, you have your own mommy… and it would break your mommy’s heart to know that you’ve disowned her. She loves you.” “Is that why she’s a prostitute? Is that why she used to hit me, and throw me off the stairs? You actually don’t know me. You don’t really know what I went through, don’t you?” “Hunter, you aren’t allowed to talk about your mom like that. That’s disrespectful. I forbid you to use such language when talking about your mom.” “And I forbid you from dictating him.” I stand up and look at Iron. “You are so revolting, I could just stab you right now.” I remove the few strands of hair that fell onto my face. “Can you not see that you’ve raised this child to be a monster? You take something so beautiful, and you just manifest your bad behaviour into it… this child, Iron… he’s so special, he’s smart… and he’s charming. Do you realise that he would’ve been taken away from you, but I knew that he absolutely adores uncle Iron… but if uncle Iron continues acting like a brat, I will definitely inform the principal that you’re doing something wrong. I don’t know what, but you’re doing something wrong.” “You done now?” my chest vigorously heaves up and down and I rest my hand on my chest. “It’s my turn now, Rosalie… And you are absolutely infuriating. I did not raise this child, his mother wasn’t always absent… she did this to him, she made him this evil. I will not stand here and let you insult me…” he moves closer and whispers near my ear. “Do you know what irritates me, Rosalie?” I shake my head. “It’s the fact that you’re always trying to see the good in people. I have news for you, fiore, there’s not one good bone in this body. Enjoy your day.” He turns around and picks Hunter up. “I love you, Miss Rosalie.” Hunter says and buries his face in Iron’s neck. “Miss Rosalie?” Marie calls out and sits in front of me. “Where’s Hunter? He’s been absent for three days now. Is he sick?” “Mr Santiago sent him to his mother, Marie.” “I can’t help but wonder about your relationship with, Giovanni, it’s peculiar.” “Who’s Giovanni, Marie?” “Hunter never told you Iron’s real name?” she giggles and hands me a few pages. “Something Hunter wrote a few weeks ago. A very bright-young man wasn’t he?” she smiles as stares into space. “Anyway, I still have to fetch my niece from ballet practice,” Marie smiles with me before leaving. Giovanni huh?
