17 Plans Meredith I DIDN’T HAVE TO THINK about Mike’s proposal for too long. It made sense in so many ways. We would be having a child together. He was a caring thoughtful father to Sukey. We were involved in the establishment of the Maynard Center together. His parents would be thrilled, his mother at least. Sukey, the new baby and I would be protected should anything untoward happen to Mike. The only rub was my reluctance to have s*x with Mike. It wasn’t that I didn’t fancy him.
