{FOUR DAYS EARLIER}
Alena was in the kitchen getting ready t bake a pie for her big brother's birthday. Al was to be 41; he adopted her when he found her on the shore as a baby. Oliver was her second-oldest brother, whom Al also took in years ago. He had just turned 25 and wanted a burnt sugar cake.It was difficult to get the sugar, but Alena made it happen by working for the merchant for free for a few months. “Im gonna have a huge feast for my birthday, Alena all thanks to you,” Al gleefully stated as he walked into the hut they had were the front door, kitchen, living room, and dinning room were all the same room.” I'm not sure about a feast. Still, You will definitely have a pie.” she retorted back, dancing and singing, making Al stare at her as if he was in a trance.” Marriage should be around the corner for you; it looks like you are going to be a pirate's wife.” Al teased Alena,“ A pirates wife or a monkey’s uncle who do you think I am?, Be sides every one in Jerecho is like family marrying one of y'all would be akin to incest to me, I'm okay with being a spinster” Al’s face crumpled for a second, Them he fixed his face out and told her that babies make money especially siren babies, then he left out Caliing for Oliver.
Later on, when Alena went out to meet the town's pirate lord, she spotted him with AL, Oliver, and a strange man in a captain’s uniform, arguing and yelling. “ We have three here, but one of 'em is a siren's pearl, and you wanna give us chump change, you bastard?” Al screamed so loudly his voice was hoarse. Before Alena could even think, her body moved toward them. No one could see her but the strange man. He quickly pulled out his sword and cut down the three men he was yelling at, and at one moment, she had no one. The pie was left without an owner, the pirates were left without their lord, and Oliver was left ignorant of the world. His dream of becoming the next lord was never to be true. Alena grabbed at them, begging to wake up, while the strange man ordered his men to take her to his ship, forcing her to watch as her home, the only one she ever knew, was burned down.
Days passed, and only somberness filled her, as the island where the town was located grew smaller and smaller. The strange man was no one other than Captain Joseph Bathalimule, and his closest men stayed in his room and his office. The other men tried to lure the women in their hammocks with extra food and cheap trinkets. Alena was taught better by her brothers, helping the other two women she saw. Eventually, the men locked her and the others in the brig. Withholding food and water, hoping the women would cave in, the women had not seen the captain or the trusted few until the day they awoke as sirens. The woman never caved and only grew angry and animosity was the only thing left in their hearts, planning on the violence they will do when they get free.
