Mateo
I spent about two hours dealing with the rogue situation. We had to put a tag to their scents so we can keep track of them. Since myself and my beta made physical contact with the rogues, we were able to pass the scent to the rest of our pack so we would be able to catch their smell right away if they came back. And now I lay in front of my beautiful sleeping mate. Her breathing is so light and soft, she sleeps like an angel. I notice she has a scar on her eyebrow, I wonder how she got it, and why a scar this small didn’t heal all the way. I move my hand without thinking to touch the scar, thinking about how it only added to her beauty. My fingers brush it lightly causing Emerald’s eyes to blink open and she screams. The next thing I know she is falling backwards off the bed and onto the floor. Im in such shock that I didn’t have enough time to react to catch her. I get off the bed and make it around to the side she was once on, she’s flat on her butt, eyes engulfed with fear as if she didn’t know where she was. I stepped closer to her, and she whimpered in fear trying to move further away from me, I stopped in my tracks. I was scaring her. But why? Just last night she was all worried about me and enjoying my presence and now she’s acting like im the devil. I approached her more slowly and decided to get down on her level. I didn’t want her to be afraid of me, she didn’t have a reason too.
“Emmie baby” I scoot towards her a little bit more in a squatted position with my hands up in surrender. “It’s me” I try to reach for her, but she cowered away and turn her face away from me. “Hey, its okay, its me little one, Matty.” No one has called me Matty since I was a young pup but for her, for my little one I’ll resort back to my nickname to seem less intimidating. I try again. “Emerald, look at me…no one’s going to hurt you, no one.” I can see her muscles physically relax just a little bit and I’m able to rest my hand on her knee. She relaxes even more and even turns to look at me. I put my other hand out for her to grab it and thankfully she does. I pull us off the floor and guide her to sit at the edge of the bed. I wasn’t sure what to do next. I’ve never seen someone so terrified and broken like that not even my warriors have that look in their eyes before a battle. Im still holding her hand and I realize they were trembling I grip them tighter and pull her into my lap. She tenses up even more before I pull her into a tight bear hug which allowed her to relax. I muzzle her neck, taking in her sweet scent while raking my fingers through the roots of her hair.
“Relax, you’re okay. I would never hurt you.” Now that I’ve said those words I wonder who has hurt her in the past for her to be so afraid of practically nothing, waking up and automatically feeling fear. “You know that right?” I needed to reassure her. She looks me in my eyes and nods her head up and down.
“I know” she was able to get out.
“Has…has anyone hurt you before?” I had to ask; my wolf was itching for an answer. No she wolf reacts like that if they haven’t been through some type of trauma. To think that someone can hurt someone for small and precious as my mate has my wolf on edge. My skin begins to turn hot, and I feel a growl start deep in my chest ready to leave my lips as I feel a small hand cup my cheeks. It’s a nice feeling of contrast, her soft hands against my rough and stubbled face. I lean further into her touch, and I feel my wolf calming from the anger we were just feeling.
“No, no…I just got startled.” She looked at me with those innocent but weary eyes. She was lying.
“Little one” I say with an accusative tone to let her know that I know she’s lying.
“I-I-I was…bullied a lot by the other she-wolves at my pack.” She looked everywhere else on my face but my eyes.
“Why? You are the deltas daughter”
“I do not know. I just.” I cut her off. Some she wolves could be just as dangerous as rogues. Jealousy is the only explanation I could think of. She wolves when they are jealous is like walking into a lion’s den. It makes sense, my mate is graceful and beautiful, and a high ranking wolfs daughter, they probably saw her as competition.
“Does your parents and Alpha know about this?”
Emerald
“No. NO. They don’t but please don’t say anything. Please. Its in the past. It was.. I was just having a nightmare.” I blurt out the lie. I should’ve said a different lie but blaming it on bullies was the only thing that came to my mind. I’ve only had one bully in my entire life and zero interactions with she wolves. I can’t have him calling the Alpha exposing my lie and without a doubt leading my mother to her torture then death. “Please Matty” I beg with my palm still holding his face. “It was just nightmare and you just startled me. I scare easily” and that was truth. I was having a nightmare about the man who invades my dreams every night since I could remember, and it was the fear of waking up to him in front of me was what made me fall off the bed. I was too embedded with fear to realize that it was my sweet mate in front of me.
“I’m sorry. I overreacted. Please. I don’t want to open old wounds” I looked at him with puppy eyes hoping he would drop it. I can see the wheels in his head turning like he was battling with his final decision. I took the pad of my thumb and brush it so lightly over his lips it even tickled me.
“Fine. I won’t say anything BUT you must promise to tell me when and if someone hurts you again. I will not allow it, okay?” He huffs.
“I promise” that is something I can say truthfully because as long, I'm far away from Thomas I will never be abused again.
"Okay little one. Hungry?" he asked me with a sly grin. I was and I didn't realize I was until he mentioned it. All i had a was a small plate at breakfast, then everything got all crazy and what not. My stomach growled with the thought of food running through my mind.
"I am." I giggled. " How do you know?"
"I can hear your stomach eating its own lining." he said with a deep chuckle.
"Oh" I said, forming the letter with my lips. That's embarrassing. I always forget that wolves can hear something as simple as your heart skipping a beat or swallowing your own spit.
"Alright, let's go. Any ideas of what you wanna eat?"
"Well, what do we have?"
"Pretty much anything honestly. The kitchen is stocked like a damn grocery store."
"Hmmm" I tapped my finger on my chin as I thought about what I wanted. I usually ate whatever my mom cooked without a complaint because it was good, no matter what it was. My favorite food was curry anything, chicken, lamb, potatoes, mangoes, but I didn't get to eat it much because Thomas said it was too spicy.
"Curry?" I said wearily, deciding to take a chance on it. It's not like I'll be upset or die if he says no.
"I think I can make it happen," he said while looking at me with a smile. I smiled back at him. I'm sure I was blushing but I could care less right now, he's made me so happy.
"Thank you so much" she pulled me into his side and under his arm as we walked out the bedroom door. I was beaming.
"Come on, let's ask the chef if she can whip you up a good curry."
We walked into the kitchen and with perfect timing a chef who was probably a decade older than my mother was there setting some veggies on the counter along with some spices.
"I mind linked her as soon as you said you wanted curry." he said, as he noticed confusion written all over my face. I always forget about mind-linking and my lack of ability to do it. i just gave him a simple nod.
"Feel free to grab a snack while you wait Luna, the curry is going to take about an hour." The chef said to me as she gave me the sweetest smile that reminded me of my mother.
"Okay, and I can help if you like."
"Oh no Luna, you sit right there and let me work my magic."
I feel Mateos' big hands wrap around my shoulders as he stands behind me and leans to whisper in my ears.
" I'll be back for dinner. I have to go meet with the warriors for some training, okay?" Mateo said as he gave my shoulders a little squeeze and made his way out of the kitchen.
"Okay, have fun."
"I will!!" he yells back to me as he disappears. The chef, whose name is Marisol, and I make small talk. I find out that she has worked as a chef for Mateo since his reign and as well as his father when he was alpha. And that Mateo was a mischievous boy who found trouble around every corner. I've never had a chance to make small talk with anyone or heck talk with anyone much. The thought alone brought me back to my past and then to my future. I was so isolated, besides my mom to talk to too, I had no one.No one to share my ffeligs and thoughts to, it was always just me. I was a shame and an embarrassment to the wolf community for something I had no control over. And once Mateo finds out, I'll be an outcast all over again. I'm not sure how he'll react, but my guess is not good. He's an alpha for goddess' sake. I completely forget where I am and how deep in thought when I hear Marisol saying my name.
"Am I right Luna? Luna?"
"Oh yes, I'm sorry...uhm what were you saying?" my face was flushed red from embarrassment.
"Where did you go there for a second?" she giggled at me.
"Oh I was thinking about my mom and my old pack." I wasn't lying.
"Give it time sweetie, it takes time and before you know it you'll feel right at home here. Trust me." I couldn't trust her words because, as much as I love it here already I know what's to come.
