Danielle's POV
I felt the sudden urge to turn around and run out of the office. I feltthe urge to disappear and never return but my body remained frozen.
I watched the same handsome stranger from that night, he rose to his feet and slowly walked towards my direction. He was even more handsome from five years ago. His beards were neatly trimmed and his shirt hugged his muscular chest tight, revealing his abs.
"Have we met before?" He raised a brow at me. I staggered backward as he halted right in front of me. He eyed me from head to toe and his eyes eventually settled on my thighs. It triggered memories and made me feel uncomfortable.
"Miss Danielle?" Mr Tom nudged my shoulder. I jolted out of my thoughts and cleared my throat to say "Sorry, I zoned out." I bowed my head low to avoid eye contact with the handsome stranger.
"I asked a question, have we met before?" He fired at me, his tone was slightly cold.
"Come on Julian, there is no possible way for you to have met Danielle before. She just moved to New York a few days ago. She stayed in Rochester with her son." Mr Tom said. The way he addressed the vice chairman so causally meant that they were good friends.
"Son? You have a son?" Mr Julian asked.
I bit my lower lip and nodded my head in agreement. If only he knew that son was his own.
"How old?" Mr Julian inquired. It was suspicious. Why did he care? Did he by any chance remember me and was pretending not to?
"Five." I muttered.
"Good." He said. I was surprised. That was it? Julian moved backward and I could finally breathe peacefully. I raised my head up to gaze at him.
"Well, Tom spoke good about you and I trust his judgments so you are hired. Danielle right?" Julian asked. I reluctantly nodded my head in agreement. I thought Mr Tom said I would have to go through some kind of interview with the Vice chairman. Was this the interview he was talking about?
"Just like that?" Mr Tom asked. Julian nodded his head in agreement and shrugged lightly. "She is my secretary now. Make sure you show her around." Mr Julian pointed to the door, I nodded my head and excused myself out. Mr Tom remained inside, he seemed to be engrossed in a conversation with Julian.
I released a heavy sigh and placed my hand over my chest. That was so close! What sort of coincidence was this? Who would have imagined that I would cross paths with the father of mt child? In such a way like this?
I ran a hand through my hair in frustration and mentally scolded myself, I needed to act confident. I needed to pretend like I had never seen him before, for the sake of this job.
Mr Tom met me outside. He turned to me with a small smile on his face and asked "Shall we?" I nodded my head in agreement and allowed him become my tour guide.
**************
A month had passed by with me as Julian's secretary. It was a tough month but the salary was rewarding. Asides the fact that Julian was way too strict, he was an okay person. We went out for a lunch a few times and sometimes we talked casually.
Those few times I spent with Julian made me feel bad that he had a child with me and he was unaware of it. It was unfair, I knew it was yet I kept it a secret.
Today, Alex was unwell and I could not take him to school. I could not take him to Rita's place either because she had work. I wanted to skip work but Julian had an important meeting today and he needed me my his side. I had no choice but to bring Alex to work, although I had taken permission from Julian and he agreed.
The staffs around kept giving Alex stares that I hated. He looked so much like Julian but I never thought the staffs would notice. I was beginning to see it as a risk but I had no choice, there was no other place to drop Alex.
I patted his shoulder gently and forced a smile on my face. "How do you feel now?" I questioned. Alex shrugged and replied "A bit better mummy. Can we have ice cream on our way back home?" He beamed excitedly.
I could not refuse. I wanted to do everything that made Alex happy. Moreover, I was in a good mood too. I was happy that Julian and Alex had not crossed paths with each other. If Julian happened to see Alex, it would leave him entirely confused and disorientated.
"No problem baby! We can have all the ice creams in the world because mummy can now afford a gazillion of them!" I said grinning. Alex squealed and blew me a kiss. I chuckled loudly as I led him towards the elevator. I pressed the button for the last floor and to my uttermost surprise, the door opened wide and Julian was standing in the elevator.
Our eyes met briefly before his eyes darted toward Alex's direction.
"Who--" I hastily pushed Alex behind me before Julian could get a closer look.
"Sorry Sir, we will take the other elevator." I bowed my head at him and attempted to walk away but he grabbed my by the wrist and pulled me into the elevator wit Alex besides me.
His eyes settled on Alex and I watched Julian's look change from now normal to surprise.
"This is your son?" He paused to point at Alex.
I paused to chuckle nervously and nod my head in agreement. "Yes "
"He loo-ks, h-e loo-ks so..." Julian stuttered. He could not bring himself to utter those words. I was screwed.
"He looks so much like his father." I blurted out.
