SAL, JUDE, AND JOHN were all sitting at the table as before. Hami was with them and they were all laughing at someone’s joke. Lemonade glasses and a pitcher were there, along with another heaped stack of brownies on a plate. All the books and that library cart were gone again. An empty chair was at the table and I dropped into it. To say I was tired from all that work was an understatement. But I hadn’t known until I sat down. Everyone was watching me, expectant, but polite enough to wait for me to talk. Hami poured me a tall tumbler of lemonade and set it in front of me.
