ElevenWe'd been in camp for exactly three days. The Company sent out water and food every day, yet it was still sparse and very well rationed. The days were hot, and the nights were long. Though it didn't seem so at the time, looking back now, the first twenty-four hours in camp were actually quite comical. The Military men and women would jump, wake up, reach for their weapons or even scream in fear with the sound of the lightning and thunder.
The next day they were completely exhausted from lack of sleep. This played out well on their part. They were quickly able to change their sleep schedule and stay awake at night, alongside us. After the first disturbing night, they were able to adjust and sleep in the quiet, and safety of the day. Freddy and I felt perfectly at home with the lightn
