The Major paused and looked down at his watch. “Who is also late.” He shook his head in disgust then continued. “We'll take a little nap before the dark settles in and the lightning begins. You'll need to be refreshed and awake during the night. You'll stay at camp, along with a small army, until she shows up. There's no way to tell how long that may take. Now if you will excuse me I must wait for Freddy.”
The Major turned on his heels and marched back through the metal door, leaving us to ourselves. Amber and I glanced at each other quickly. Her smile grew and I could sense the excitement in her eyes.
“I'm going for the trampoline first!” She took off in a giddy sprint to the back wall.
“What is a trampoline?” I mumbled the question quietly, and a little embarrassed.
