Evelyn “Is he awake?”, Evelyn asks the nurse. “Not yet”, she replies. It’s morning, and Evelyn has barely slept a wink. Evelyn makes her way into the sterile hospital room. Daniel is lying on the bed under a mountain of blankets while a machine beeps jarringly behind him. An IV bag is perched atop a post to his left, the long plastic tube winding down and underneath the blankets. Standing at the foot of the bed, she is in awe that she is looking at Daniel. His mocha coloured hair is splayed on the pillow, it’s long. His strong jaw looks clenched, and it’s covered in a mocha coloured shaggy beard with long streaks of grey.
