This is a "bloodline + cost" system. You inherit the power, but using it takes something from you. That’s why it feels dangerous.
1. Source: The Weave
The world is made of invisible "threads" - fate, memory, matter, time, emotion. The original Anansi family could see and manipulate these threads.
The Lion family can only make a fake, brittle version. That’s why they need the real Anansi bloodline.
2. The Core Abilities
Tier 1 - Instinctive: You get these first
- Thread Sense: Feel movement, heartbeats, and intent within ∼15 meters. Like a 6th sense for people.
- Silk Tongue: Say things that make people doubt themselves and each other. Not mind control, just planting the right doubt at the right time.
Tier 2 - Active: Needs focus and intent
- Dust Weaver: Manipulate dust, debris, silk, and loose material. Create distractions, traps, blinding clouds. Think "battlefield control."
- Web Step: Move short distances 5-10m by stepping through threads of shadow/gaps. It feels like falling. Causes nausea if overused.
Tier 3 - Advanced: High cost, high impact
- Fate Snare: Tie two people’s fates together. If one bleeds, the other bleeds. If one dies, the other dies. Breaks if cut with blood magic or extreme will.
- Anansi’s Loom: Full sight of the weave. See every connection, lie, and future possibility in an area. Cost: you lose a memory equal to the scale of what you change.
3. The Rules & Limits
1. Cost: The bigger the change, the bigger the cost. Small tricks cost stamina. Big changes cost memories.
2. Threads can’t be created, only manipulated: You work with what exists. You can’t make a thread between two strangers who have zero connection.
3. Grafting breaks the weave: The Jackals’ stolen powers are unstable because they’re forced. That’s why they twitch and fail under pressure.
4. Blood matters: Anansi blood makes the weave respond faster and cleaner. Non-blood users like the Lion get a fake, unstable version.
5. Emotion distorts threads: Anger, fear, and doubt make threads easier to manipulate. Calm, certain people are harder to affect.
4. Weaknesses
- Overuse: Causes migraines, nosebleeds, memory loss, nausea.
- Iron/cold iron: Disrupts threads. Old Anansi legends say it was used to kill them.
- Loud sound: Breaks concentration for Dust Weaver and Web Step.
- Isolation: The Loom works best when there are lots of connections to see. Alone in a desert, you’re weak.
