Getting Closer

1070 Words
Dawn's POV.  "Are you crazy!? Why did you say that to her!?" Awi hissed right after we enter the house  "You know very well why Awi. If that's how her friend treats my cousin then it's better to just stay away from them" I answered with a tint of annoyance "That's her freakin friend Dawn! They are completely two different people" "Stop it and just listen to me. Stay away from them" "Do that yourself but I will never stay away from Nicole" she hissed before walking out of the house  I tried to call her back but she didn't even bother to listen. I know very well that my actions are questionable and even unexplainable. Awi is right, they are two different people and they shouldn't be treated as one. Not because Xavier said such mean things to Scarlet doesn't mean that Sky also treated my cousin the same. I know it, I know it all but it's just so hard not to think that she won't do the same thing to me as well. Just like what they say, tell me who you're friends are and I'll tell you who you are.  Now I don't know what to do. I'm still debating whether I should apologize to Sky or not. Did I really go too far?  "Dude, you made Sky shed a tear," Bryan said which made me furrowed my brows  "Xavier earned a slap from her right after you walk out from the diner. My peripheral vision saw her shed a tear after that" he added when my eyes told him to explain what he wants to say.  "It's your peripheral vision, Bryan. For all we know, you could be wrong" "You just refused to accept that you made a girl cry"  I don't even know what to feel. I didn't even know that Sky cried after that. Now I feel horrible but even if my mind wants to message her, my body seems to refuse the idea. If only I could just bring back the time and tried my best to compose myself, then it might not be this hard.  I don't want to have an awkward atmosphere when Sky and I meet along the streets and what's worst is I promised her that I'll attend her contest. Now I'm screwed.  "Do you have any clothes I could use?" Bryan asked, rummaging the fridge to look for something to eat "And why is that?"  "Your cousin insisted I should stay the night to make progress regarding my presentation"  "Don't bother. She won't let you sleep at all," I said, which made him swallow a lump on his throat.  "Dude, your cousin is scary"  Indeed, Scarlet could look scary when she's focused. She's a perfectionist, a girl who doesn't want to have any regrets. That's why when she's settled for something that just means she's ready to fight and won't even care if she feels exhausted, she just wants to finish everything in one go. Truth be told, this attitude of her is what scares me the most. Knowing that she's willing to sacrifice her health just for some homework, presentation, or whatever school or work-related it is. "How is she?" I asked Bryan who's now drinking a can of soda "She said she's fine. The B-word didn't bother her that much, unlike you"  "Be careful what you say. Not all people who say that they're fine is indeed fine," I said and proceeded to my room, leaving him alone in the kitchen.  Everyone could say, I was overreacting. But I was there ever since my cousin's childhood, we practically grew up together so I know her when she's bothered or not. I saw how she got hurt and feel uncomfortable when guys check her out even when she's just walking down the streets. And I was there when she almost lost her innocence because of her freaking uncle. Thankfully, her father came at the right moment.  Scarlet's POV.  The room was covered with silence and the windows were hit by the night breeze. Bryan and I are now starting to read the articles that he needs for his presentation. The atmosphere is a bit awkward given the fact that we are in a separate room with Dawn. However, after a few minutes passed by, we now got used to each other's presence.  "I'll go use the kitchen first," he said before walking out the room, leaving me all alone  I proceed to read some articles that will help with his selected situation. If I have to be honest, it's impossible to finish this within three days, knowing that he has other majors that he needs to pay attention to. Minutes later the door flew open and revealed a shadow coming closer and closer towards my direction. "Thank you for helping me" Bryan uttered and used his feet to close the door "It's nothing though"  "Here, have some cookies and milk," he said placing the tray on the top of the table.  "How thoughtful of you, thank you," I said and giggled when I see the pink stain on his cheek. Oh my gosh did he just blush? "It's nothing compared to your help. I appreciate it"  "If you indeed appreciate it, then start on reading articles that you think are relevant to the given situations," I said which made him get his book and salute in front of me We sit beside each other reading different books, we divided the task to make it easier and organized for the sake of both of us. Other minutes passed by and my peripheral vision sees his head resting on the table. I let out a small chuckle when I see his exhausted face cutely crunching his nose. Other than his face, I was astonished by his eyebrows, they are thicker when you see them up close. He also has these long eyelashes which are so pretty making him stand more and look attractive. The shape of his nose is as perfect as the letter L in the alphabet. Without knowing, my fingers moved on their own and tried to touch his lips which seems to be so soft but before I could even embarrass myself more, he opened his eyes and sit up straight.  "I'm up, I'm sorry I doze off," he said, smiling at me which made my heart skip a beat for no reason at all.
