CHAPTER FIVE Avery brought her head out of the full water inside the bathtub and groaned loudly, breathing a little bit faster than usual. It was her first day at the lipgloss class and for some reason, this class was held from 9 am to 10 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for two weeks. She wiped the water off her face and moved her wet hair back, the hair fell back into the water. "How is it going to be like?" She thought to herself. "My lady!" She heard Emily's voice from the bedroom and she sighed. "My lady" Emily called once more. "Any problem?" Avery asked. "What dress would you love to wear to class today?" Emily asked as she was going through Avery's wardrobe. "Simple or standard?" Emily added. "Oh, I would love to go with simple" Avery responded as she took a towel to tie. Soon she got out and Emily quickly dried her hair "My lady, be fast with your dress, some maids will soon be here" Emily said as she departed from the room. Avery quickly dressed up and soon Emily and some maids arrived. Avery sat on the bed and watched the maids as they fixed her wardrobe with some new dresses, soon Emily came in with Avery's favorite food and drink. "Eat up my lady, class starts in 30 minutes. Emily said as she served Avery food in bed. "Thanks, dear," Avery said with a smile on her face as she hurriedly ate the food. After the class, Avery's driver picked her up and soon they arrived, she got into her room and quickly freshened up. Soon Emily came in with some fruit juice "Here my lady" Emily said as she handed her the juice. "Exactly what I needed," Avery said with a smile on her face as she took the juice from Emily. As she was busy with her juice Emily quickly got her some dresses to change into. "Here my lady." Emily said, "Change into this quickly." Emily added as she took the cup away from her. Soon Avery was changed into the dress Emily gave her and stood at the mirror admiring her beauty. "They look nice on you and your beauty makes it perfect," Emily said with a smile on her face. "But what is the occasion? Why am I getting dressed?" Avery asked. Emily smiled as she said, "Follow me, you will soon find out." As Emily walked into the room, she was met with a sea of smiling faces. Ethan stepped forward, beaming with pride. "Surprise!" he exclaimed. Emily's expression faltered, confusion etched on her face. "What's going on?" she asked, looking around at the familiar faces. Her husband chuckled. "We wanted to celebrate you, my love. Your hard work, your strength... everything." Emily's confusion slowly gave way to delight as she realized the thought and effort that had gone into the surprise party. As Emily mingled with her friends and colleagues, she was enveloped in a warm, collective smile. Personalized banners adorned the walls, their bright colors and cheerful messages a stark contrast to the confusion that had clouded her face just moments before. "We love you, Emily" and "You're amazing!" seemed to leap off the banners, filling her heart with a sense of wonder. The aroma of her favorite cake wafted through the air, mingling with the sound of laughter and chatter. Her husband had spared no detail, ensuring that every aspect of the party was tailored to her tastes. The refreshments, too, were a testament to his thoughtfulness, with her favorite drinks and snacks laid out with precision. As friends and colleagues took turns sharing heartfelt speeches, Emily's eyes grew misty. They spoke of her kindness, her resilience, and her countless accomplishments, each story and anecdote painting a vivid picture of a woman who was loved and admired by those around her. Tears of joy pricked at the corners of Emily's eyes as she felt seen and appreciated in a way she hadn't in a long time. She turned to Ethan, her voice barely above a whisper as she mouthed a heartfelt "Thank you" in his ear. The warmth of his hug, the gentle pressure of his arms around her, was all the response she needed. In that moment, surrounded by the people she cared about, Emily felt a sense of belonging she hadn't known she needed. The surprise party was more than just a celebration – it was a reminder that she was loved, valued, and cherished. As the party wound down and guests began to say their goodbyes, Ethan pulled her close. "I have one more surprise for you," he whispered, a mischievous glint in his eye. "What's that?" Emily asked, curiosity piqued. "I was thinking we could sneak out of here and catch a movie," he said, his voice low and inviting. "Just the two of us." Emily's face lit up with a smile. "That sounds perfect," she said, already imagining the cozy night ahead. Ethan grinned and took her hand. "Let's make a quick exit before anyone else tries to keep us here," he whispered, leading her toward the door. As they walked out of the party venue, Emily's husband led her to his sleek, black car. The moonlight danced across its shiny surface, and Emily couldn't help but notice the way the car's lines seemed to curve and swoop like a work of art. Ethan opened the door for her, his chivalrous gesture making her feel like royalty. "Your carriage awaits, my queen," he said with a smile, helping her into the passenger seat. As they drove to the movie theater, Emily felt pampered and cared for. Her husband held her hand, occasionally glancing over to smile at her or ask if she was comfortable. The soft glow of the dashboard lights illuminated his face, highlighting the gentle features that she loved. As they walked into the movie theater, Ethan bought their tickets and led her to the concession stand. "What do you want to snack on?" he asked, his eyes scanning the menu. Emily smiled, feeling carefree and happy. "Surprise me," she said, leaning into him. He grinned and ordered a bucket of popcorn and two drinks. As they made their way to their seats, Emily's phone suddenly buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out, and her heart skipped a beat as she saw a mysterious text message: "You don't know what he's capable of." Emily's eyes widened, and she felt a chill run down her spine. She looked up at her husband, but he was oblivious, focused on finding their seats. "What's wrong?" he asked, noticing her expression. Emily hesitated, unsure what to say. "Just a wrong number," she said finally, tucking the phone away. But as they settled in for the movie, Emily couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. The message lingered in her mind, casting a shadow over the happiness she had felt just moments before. The lights dimmed, and the movie began. But Emily's attention was elsewhere, her mind racing with questions. Who sent that message? And what did they mean?
