CHAPTER FIVE: ANONYMOUS CALLER

1049 Words
“Cassie, it’s short for Cassandra”. She honestly didn’t know why she was giving up such information, freely. “Miller, It’s actually Cassandra Miller”, she said again. Well, it wasn’t that deep on second thought. He had hazel eyes like in every romance novel she’d ever read and she could see it through his glasses that made him look nerdy but refined. She tried to keep her cool but she felt something floating in her insides—almost like butterflies. Cassandra watched as his tongue touched his plump lips a little, making it turn a bright pink. It tingled her insides, how he wasn’t forcing anything. He was just a pretty boy with exquisite facial features. He seemed like a fairytale in one piece except he wasn’t sweeping her off her feet. She loved the way his hair brushed against his face and when he tried pushing it back, she saw his big arm and a small tattoo which she couldn’t exactly tell what it was because of its size. “Oh, that’s a really nice name” his voice snapped her out of her coveted thoughts. His brows were furrowed in thought, like he was trying to remember something important. He opened his mouth as if to say something else, but hesitated and didn’t. “Thanks”, she answered in a haste. Before she could say another word, he startled her by stepping a little closer. Isaac used his index finger to give a gentle touch to his glasses, before speaking. “You’re the author?” He asked, a bit confused. Cassandra’s face contorted into a more confused one as at first didn’t understand what he’d asked, before it clicked and she shyly replied. “Yeah, I write. Wrote the book you were just reading too”. She said matter-of-fact with a small hint of pride in her tone. Cassandra gestured towards his table and he smiled before glancing at it. “Never thought I’d meet my favorite author in a small town like this”. She felt a bit flattered and looked away quickly. She knew that if she turned to look at him, he’d see that her cheeks had turned red. “Well, I walked up to you because you actually look lost, but imagine my surprise finding out you’re an author—my favorite one too”. He’d said, and only one thing registered in her mind. “Did you just call me lost?”, she sounded fiesty. “Uh, because you were looking all over the place, it’s either that or you needed someone to talk to”. Isaac replied, passively. “I was picking up my stuff to leave, you don’t get to judge people you don’t know.” She retorted. Isaac watched her a bit, and as if he didn’t know what next to say, he ruffled his hair a bit, scratching his head. “Ugh, you have a small mind. It’s confined”, Cassandra said arching her brow. “What?? Coming from someone whose book I love to read, we must be two birds of the same feather then”, Sean smirked. Looking defeated, Cassandra couldn’t utter any words to defend herself. He was right, if he was reading her book; which technically has a lot of good diction and mind feeding concepts, then if she called his mind small, then so was hers. She’d finally packed up her stuff back inside her duffel bag, and stared hard at him, watching as a bead of sweat fell from his head. Despite his show of confidence and a big mouth, he seemed sort of nervous, but she didn’t think much about it. Isaac didn’t say anything else as he watched her walk out the door. He actually found her intriguing. He wasn’t actually reading her book, just skimming through it to know her thought processes and concepts about life generally. After staring shortly at his Ƶ tattoo, he started to regret why he hadn’t worn a long sleeved shirt to at least cover it up. She could suspect something was up, she looked like she was trying to read him through his looks with her caramel brown eyes, his thoughts went back to her small lips that kept pouting and how she slowly bit her lower lip—to probably stop herself from cussing at him, when he said something that annoyed her. She seemed really feisty, from the creasing on her forehead from her furrowed brows and her cheeks were flushed. Almost like he was trying to shake off the hypnotic state, he immediately stopped the small smile that appeared on his face and quickly frowned—even though he knew no one was around or close to him. He couldn’t understand why he was suddenly paying so much attention to her features. His phone beeped twice and he immediately knew who it was. He looked around him, carefully watching to see if there were any familiar faces before clicking “accept” on his phone. “Is it done?” the baritone voice made Isaac’s Jaw tighten. “I am fully aware of my mission and what I must do”, he replied, with a flicker of annoyance on his face. Regardless of his show of boldness, he still knew not to cross the line by trying to mask his fear with a confident tone. “You have one mission. Get. It. Done”, the caller replied, gritting his teeth. Isaac felt his commanding presence even though he wasn’t not at proximity with him. “Of course, I’m working on…” Isaac had started to reply before the caller cut him off. “See that it is done and remember, I see everything” he says and before he can say anything else, the line goes dead. Isaac didn’t know that he was holding his breath until he let out a deep sigh while clenching his fists, trying to regain composure. He knew what he had to do and where to start from, this wasn’t going to end well for him if he didn’t get into Cassandra’s good book soon enough. Afterall, he wasn’t going to just slip into her life by being on her bad side.
