The crabby boss

1270 Words
Waking up the next day, she noticed she was already late for work and as the events of yesterday came back flooding her memory, she cringed at her own stupidity. That was supposed to be her boss, the one whom she supposedly hate for goodness sake. She found her clothes and a note at the dresser and quickly prepared for work. She was already late and she was sure she will be held in traffic but that was the least of her worries compared to how embarrassed she felt but she had to get to work since she didn’t have money to pay for advertising space. Reaching the office, she put away her sling bag and sat down to work. The black pencil suit skirt she was wearing clearly described her mood and when the human resource secretary came to her desk, she was clearly pissed at her guts. “Leave me alone young lady, I have a lot of work to do and if we are talking about work, I clearly don’t want to work here. If you can fire me the better, besides I already resigned but your crabby boss wouldn’t leave me be.” She retorted and went back to her work. “Did you just call me crappy?” a voice startled her making her raise her eyes only to come face to face with her employer. Before she could decide on the next cause of action to take, he was already holding and squeezing the life out of them. He looked like something had come over him because the anger she saw in those eyes did not look normal at all. Refusing to let herself be intimidated, she looked straight into his eyes and answered, “not really, I said crabby,” she smiled noticing the confusion and frown etched in his features. Sure her time with the dictionary during campus when she had nothing to do seemed to be bearing fruit. “In as much as I can remember, I am not always in a foul mood and do you mean I always find faults in everything? I don’t see myself as the type to always complain but I like getting work done to my measure of perfection.” It was her time to frown, she honestly didn’t expect him to get that one. She looked away feeling little and started rubbing around her arm where he had held. Maybe he was right, she was just a nuisance and she will never win in this war. She felt like he had taken all her feminist values and swept them down the drain. Honestly what was the need of even trying to prove herself capable, clearly it was not even worth it. “I need to see you in my office,” he said as he started walking towards his office door. “now,” he emphasized when he noticed she was still seated. He headed to the small fridge in his office and got an ice bag. He ordered her to close the door and sit down before kneeling beside her and examining her hand. He gasped when he noticed the skin around her wrist was broken. Cringing, he slowly started to massage it with ice before placing a sticking plaster he got from the kit in his desk around the wounded part. Once he was done, he looked up into her eyes and held his breath. He tried to talk himself out of what he was thinking of doing but his body seemed to think otherwise. By the time he came back to his senses, he was already far gone and he didn’t have it within himself to hurt her feelings. The feeling of her lips on his was far too much overwhelming and he couldn’t think straight. Somehow, he knew he was far gone and there was no turning back. Looking down at Husuellas “ am so sorry,” he whispered to her still shocked form. Whenraised his eyes to meet hers, he knew he had screwed up big time. He expected her to say something but she just stood up and walked slowly out of his office without a word. Watching her walk out of his office was the most difficult thing he had ever endured. He tried to reach out to stop her but he did not know what he was going to say to her. Maybe just letting her leave was going to be added to the list of the endless mistakes he committed when it came to her but that seemed like a better option for now. Walking past her desk towards the conference room, he motioned for her to follow, naturally it was her job to take notes for him. Reaching the room, he noticed everyone had already arrived and started the meeting. “ Am sorry am late,” he was startled by the sound of someone falling. Raising his head and looking to see her sprawled on the floor. He was just about to laugh when he noticed one of his employees smiling at her but when she smiled back, his anger flared. “Get out of here miss, maybe I should just hire a new secretary, you’re not worth it.” He said and immediately looked away. While he was convincing himself that he did the right thing but he knew he didn’t want to see the look on her face when she was leaving. For the rest of the meeting, he couldn’t get his mind away from her. He hoped deep down she was okay and that he had not yet messed up big time. “Everybody, the meeting is done and you can see yourselves out because I have other things to attend to,” he said sounding irritated and everyone started scrambling on their feet and leaving. Once he was left alone, he sighed in frustration before the soft footsteps of someone startled him. Looking up, he noticed Husuella standing there and looking down at her feet. The girl he had met at kimasutra was completely gone. He wanted to stand up and do something but when she looked into his eyes, he froze. She had been crying, that wasn’t supposed to affect him but he was experiencing the complete opposite. “I.. I’m sorry for today sir, it wont happen again,” she said and was about to go away when “wait,” Kayden said making her stop in her trucks. “Don’t worry sir, you have made your point. I understand that I will never be good enough. Again am sorry I will take my leave now,” before he could say what he had wanted to tell her, she was gone. Kayden stayed staring at the door before sighing and placing his head on the table. He really did know how to mess up everywhere she was concerned. He wanted to pretend everything was okay but he knew he had to do something before it was too late. As he sat contemplating on what to do, an idea came to his mind making him smile, it was something he was willing to try and he could only hope it would work to his favor. Taking his phone, he called his driver to bring his car upfront before making a few more calls. Once he was done, he walked out and headed straight to her desk. He noticed she was not there and was almost panicking when she emerged from his office. “Come with me and pack your things, we are not coming back,” he said before he started moving towards the lift. For the first time that day he felt relieved. Maybe this could blow up in his face if he got unlucky but it was a risk he was willing to take.
