That day as they sat eating dinner, something propelled Kayden to switch on the television and he just stood there taken back. Husuella waited for him to come back but when she saw him just standing there, she became curious and walked towards him. He was looking at the news on a woman who was found dead, suspected to be prolonged mistreatment or toture. She was about to ask why he was taking keen interest in the news but her answer came when Ami held her hand and asked why they were showing her mum on television.
Before she could grasp what was happening, kayden scrambled and switched off the television then looked at her and smiled as if nothing was wrong but she saw past his cover. Through his eyes she saw the pain. “Hey, get back to the table, I’ll be down in a few,” he said while he picked up his pace and walked upstairs. Husuella quickly placed Ami on her chair and went after him despite all her gut telling her to let him be. Knowing Kayden, she knew he was about to do something drastic and will some of his employees wake up without jobs but he could do something he would regret later.
Husuella walked into the room and as she had suspected, Kayden was on his phone and he seemed particularly out of control. “I damn well told you to transfer that money immediately what were you waiting for? No its no longer needed and you are fired,” he said and cut the call before scrolling through his phone, “Make sure the transaction through my account in the last four hours is cancelled or don’t come to work ever,” he yelled into the phone before cutting the call. He was about to make a third call when Husuella reached out and took the phone away from his hands. He turned around slowly and looked down at her as if asking if she still wanted her head.
Putting the phone in one of his drawers, Husuella pulled him into a hug which seemed to have taken him by surprise. Kayden felt like the weight of the whole world had come crushing on him. Since he was a child, he had done everything for his mother. It felt like he had just lived for her. he sacrificed every single thing he could for her, he lived a pretty basic life for a person whose father owned a series of companies for her sake. He had hoped that maybe someday he would get to meet her, to get all his questions answered, to understand why she gave up on him but what for, it was all for nothing because now she was gone without him getting a chance to even know her or see her again.
All his childhood he grew up hating himself because he thought he was not good enough for her until Gogianas mother came into his life and gave him the closest experience he could have to having a mother but then she is gone too. He did not notice him being pulled towards the bed until his back hit the bed. Husuella adjusted her position and hugged him tightly. Before he knew what was happen, he was crying as his tears went down Husuellas back making the siphon blouse cling to her body.
Husuella had always thought she was a strong woman but seeing a grown up man cry like a little child broke her heart and before she knew it, she was crying harder than him and apologising for what? she did not know, maybe for the fact that he had gone through a lot, or that she was crying and failing her purpose of coming here which was to comfort him and just like that, they kept crying untill both calmed down on their own.
“You know I always hoped that I would see her even just once in this lifetime, that I’ll one day get the answers to all the questions I’ve wanted to ask her that’s why I put all my efforts and upkeep money into keeping her alive but I guess it wasn’t worth it in the end.” He said while sitting in an open posture with his hands anchored on his knees while looking at the ground. Husuella slowly reached out and squeezed his hand In an attempt to comfort him. “Im so sorry,” she said and he just noded in understanding. “I think she was already gone by the time he called me, he was just trying to get his last bidding, am actually glad that the payment was delayed,” he said staring at the ground.
“Yea, I guess so, I just want you to know that whatever happened to your mom, its not your fault, she made the choice herself, its just a pity you didn’t get to see her again, I hope she is at peace now,” she said rubbing comforting circles on his back making him nod in agreement. “I just don’t know how to break the news to Ami and am scared of her reaction, besides am worried she might not even understand,” he said and gave a heavy sigh. “Don’t worry I’ll be the one to tell her, now freshen up and get some sleep while I talk to Ami,” she said and he looked at her gratefully.
“Ami, come here,” Husuella said as she pulled Ami into her arms. “There is something I want to tell you about your mummy,” she said looking intently at the girl “I know, I already saw on TV and she told me,” “what do you mean she told you,” she asked frowning. “My mummy, she told me that I may never see her, that if I never see her I should know she is gone. But don’t worry, besides you are my knew mummy and am okay with that.” She said smiling at Husuella making her sigh in relief. She was worried that the little girl did not know the intent and weight of what happened and prayed it will not affect her negatively in future.
Husuella walked back into the room to find her boss crawled up in the bed and cuddling a pillow. She knew that even though he didn’t want her to see him vulnerable, she knew he was hurting inside. The moment he noticed her, he quickly pushed away the pillow and sat up. “Hey, you don’t have to act tough in front of me, besides am your secretary,” she said smilling making him frown. “Come here,” she opened her arms as she sat next to him allowing him to lean onto her for comfort. “Everyones needs someone to lean on once in a while, you don’t have to bear it all alone you know,” she said while he adjusted his head hugged her tightly.
Hussuella noticed Kayden was asleep and slowly put him to bed before freshening up and going to bed herself. She felt hungry but she wasn’t in any mood to eat so she decided to just let sleep takeover.
