The new girl

Kayden woke up to his phone ringing. Apparently there was a girl who had been abandoned at his gate and was found by the guards that morning. At first he told the guards to just take her to an orphanage but five minutes later, he decided to find out more about her before handing her over to the authorities. At first he was anxious and when the girl walked up to his front door, he noticed her striking resemblance to someone he vaguely remembered, his mother.

Picking up the girls bag, he rummaged through her belongings and found a note. “Kayden, take care of your little sister, you are the only person she has left. Please don’t let anything happen to her, attached is a copy of her birth certificate and other documents.” His temper flared, what did his parents think that he was some child rearing organization or what? How could they just dump their children with him expecting him to raise them for them? “Damn it,” he banged the wall next to him several times, “Gogiana was already a handfull, how about another sister? he turned around to yell at the little girl but found her already huddled to one corner of the house and crying. This stuck a cord in him, this was his small sister and it was not her fault she got abandoned by her parents.

He slowly moved towards her and she flinched with every step he made. “Am sorry sir,” she whispered in fear as she pulled herself further into the wall. “its okay,” Kayden said and picked her up in his arms “whats your name?” he asked once he sat with her on the couch. “Ami,” she said looking at him coutiously. “How old are you Ami?” he questioned looking at her gently “Three and a half,” she answered shyly then he noticed the scars on her arms and looked at them but she kept hiding them with her other hand “You can see, he will come for me,” she said her voice quivering. “Who will come fore you?” he enquired puzzled, “my bad papa, please don’t tell him,” she said looking at him pleadingly.

Kaydens heart broke for his little sister, what did that monster of a father do to her? “Don’t worry, the good papa is now here and he wont let the bad papa hurt you anymore,” he said smiling at her and for the first time, she exhaled deeply the breath she had been holding and huged him “Promise,” she asked full of hope “I promise,” kayden replied feeling relieved that she trusted him. Another nut case of a buttered and untrusting little sister was not what he needed right now.

“Give her a hot bath and place her to sleep, she is cold I think she spent the better part of the night out in the cold,” he told Gogianas nanny but the little girl refused to let go when he tried to hand her over. “Hey Ami, its okay, she is just going to give you a birth, she wont hurt you,” he said making the girl nod and move into her arms.” “also give her some warm clothes and put her to sleep, I think some of Gogianas former clothes were not donated,” he said smiling at the little girl who continued looking at the nanny coutiously.

Kayden walked back into his room and sighed, he may be mad at his mother right now but this was his little sister and he had to take care of her, in that moment he made a decision to protect her with everything he had. Sighing he looked at the bed and noticed Husuella was staring at him with concern. “Hey,” he said as he went and hugged her, “have you been awake for long?” he asked. “Not really, are you okay?” “yea I just had a little incident. My long lost mother abandoning my little step sister at my gate and leaving her out there all night.”

“What? Is she okay, I’ll go and check on her, did you give her something to eat?” she rumbled on while Kayden held her back “ she is alright, nanny is already giving her a warm bath it’s a miracle she came in early today,” he said making her relax. “Oh that’s good I guess I’ll check on her later then,” she said sighing in relief.
