Husuella was in a bubbly mood, all the way to work after she had dropped of Gogiana to her school, she couldn’t stop smiling. The events of yesterday night kept repeating themselves in her brain. Kaydens driver looked on annoyed as she kept telling unrealistic stories hypothetically. “Dean lets assume hypothetically that you were this and that. Your name is dean right? Dean or Din or Dyn,” by the time he had dropped her off at work, he decided that he really appreciated the silent version of Husuella who minded her own business through out the ride and not the excited, talkative one.
Next time maybe he could bribe the little girl into just him taking her to school by himself as always but he doubted that would work after yesterdays events.
“Mum can I give you a personal opinion?” he had asked her when he reached his breaking point. “ You are acting like a love struck five year old are you by any chance in love with anyone at all?” he said without waiting for her to reply and that is what got her to remain silent for the remaining 6 minute drive to the office.
Walking through the front lobby into the elevator and all the way, Husuella couldn’t fidgeting. Today for the first day she had decided to try on some of her best friends fashion and it sure did look good on her. The beautiful blue straight priest collared dress which she had paired with her red fitting blazer with white cuffs to sure turned all heads on her as she walked towards the lift or they must have been wondering how could a lady pair such a gorgeous outfit with a pair of white and red stripped canvases and finish the look with a nice blue sling bag.
When she reached the top floor, she smiled as she headed to her work station. Maybe she was just excited about the fact that Gogiana had insisted she take her to school and kissed her left chick goodbye or how Kayden was going to react when he set his eyes on her today. She quickly organized her work area and sat waiting to be called in to take any added appointments to fit into his schedule. Husuella kept looking at her watch as the time ticked and thirty minutes later, there was no communication. Getting tired of waiting, she thought that maybe kayden was not in yet. Ten minutes of foot tapping and chin pointing later, Husuella realized she had nothing to do and decided to pick the appointments from his office anyway. If he was in fine if he was not all good, maybe he just thought since she had dropped the little girl off, she was not in yet.
Standing from her work place, Husuella walked towards his bosses door, maybe he was just late because he didn’t have any appointment for the next one more hour. Pushing the door open, she walked in and froze on her tracks, there was her dear beloved boss locking lips with a woman she didn’t know. From behind she was really skinny and looked fit but she was certain she could make use with a little more intake of proteins. They seemed to have not noticed her while she just stood there staring like an i***t.
Kayden opened his eyes and froze when his eyes locked with a wide eyed girl in the most gorgeously paired outfit and a white and red striped pair of canvases. She certainly looked impresive and when he snapped out of his world he noticed what this looked like and immediately tried to pull away from the lady who had no idea what was taking place around her. This was his secretary, the one he had kissed a few days ago and admitted to liking and now he was here lips locked with another woman while she stayed in the middle of his office staring at him locking lips with another person in his office? For grass mowers sake how could he be so stupid? He thought to himself as he quickly moved away and straightened his shirt.
“Uh-h am sorry for interrupting your private moment sir, I’ll be careful to knock next time,” she quickly rushed her words as she walked slowly backwards as if she had seen a ghost. “just wanted to get your appointments, sorry again.” She said as she closed the doors and took off. Reaching the washroom, Husuella quickly squeezed herself into one of the stalls and closed the door before leaning her back on the door and sighing. How could she be so damn, she should have known from the start that he just wanted to play with her feelings and humiliate her as he always does. She felt like he had sworn to brake her to the point where what would be left of her would be ashes and not even a shell of a human being.
First it was her dignity as a woman that he had played with and shattered, then he had made fun of the only thing that made her feel like herself, her canvases, then he had went ahead and played with her feelings in the presence of people and now her stupid heart was behaving like someone had sent an arrow right through it. Like someone kept aiming the arrows at different parts of her heart? Did that mean she had also allowed him to play with her heart or was her heart just being stupid and had been falling for him all this while? Could it mean that she had liked him from the very first time they had met at the steps of Kimasutra?
Slowly opening the door, Husuella walked into the lobby and washed her face. While she left the water running, she stared back at the girl looking back at her from the other side of the mirror and placed her hands over her heart, she was his employee, a slave bound by a contract in this place for the next few years or months she did not know but she wasn’t just going to let someone step all over her. Sure she was going to do everything required of her but she was not going to let anyone play with her heart, she still needed it to pump blood if she was to stay alive after finishing this contract.
With a determined look and a made up mind, she walked out of the washroom and walked majestically to her work station with a big smile on her face. He may have the biggest nice grey painted office with the nicest couch, table and everything but she was going to show him who the boss was.
Sitting on her desk, it did not take long before the lady walked out. She gave Husuella a malicious smile and read the name tag on her desk with distaste clear in her voice. “Husuella, is that you?” she questioned making her put up a fake smile, “yes how may I be of help?” Husuella answered back with a glint of sarcasm in her voice. “Your boss sure is a good kiser,” she smiled at her and made to walk away but turned back and looked at her from head to toe with a venom filled glare “you look to me like bad luck, maybe your boss should hire a woman with better taste in fashion,” she said and walked away leaving Husuella staring at her with her jaws almost droping. This woman was sure something, she thought to herself as she quickly cleared her throat and picked up the ringing telephone.
“Skimlink group of companies, how may I help you,” she said into the receiver, deep down she had a feeling it was her boss but she didn’t want to give him the satisfaction by recognizing that she was expecting him to call. “Come to my office right now,” he boomed into the phone seeming irritated. Who did he think he was to have the right to be irritated? She questioned herself but the answer came later “Your employer of course, maybe you should learn how to close your mouth when you talk to yourself next time,” he roared into the receiver making her immediately place back the telephone and stand up at the same time.
Slowly opening the office door, she picked in before slowly walking in and locking the door. “You asked for me sir?” she questioned making Kayden look at her and he immediately regretted calling her into his office.
“Please sit down,” he said gesturing to the chair she stood behind. Once she was seated, he looked at her and was immediately consumed by guilt, for what he did not know since she wasn’t even his girlfriend. “If this is about earlier then am sorry sir, it won’t happen again. I’ll make sure to knock next time don’t worry,” she said and suddenly he became curious. What was wrong with her, how come she wasn’t even the slightly jealous considering the fact that he had kissed her before? “Well it better not,” he replied suddenly annoyed. Maybe he would regret his later. “what else sir? If not I’ll take my leave,” she said as she stood up and walked out of the room leaving Kayden with a heavy heart.
Husuella smiled, if he thought that he was dealing with any woman and that she was going to be some jealous prick getting annoyed and fighting over a man then he had another thing coming. Not for money, not for power and not for anything would she ever get jealous for or fight for a man. The energy she had was just enough to fight for her own self, dreams and world where a man was not included, her feminist foot would never let her brake the oath she had taken. No fighting for a man, not for love, no crying over a man, not for love nor anything. That was the promise she had made to herself.
The rest of the days went as usual with Husuella picking up calls, reporting and setting appointments for her boss while the said boss attended meetings, received calls channeled to him which required his personal attendance and did what he had to do to keep the organization running smoothly. When work hours were over, Husuella called on the driver and went to pick the little girl from school since it was obvious Kayden was busy and could eventually forget about the little girl and her nanny who was responsible had taken a leave.
That night when Kayden got home from his dinner meeting, he found Husuella already in bed with her back to him. Was she mad at him? Obviously a normal person would because when he looked keenly, he noticed she was smiling and seemed to be in her own world. Walking into the washroom, he took a shower, dressed up in comfortable pajamas and slipped into the blanket beside her. He tried to avoid the fact that she was there but soon gave up and pulled her to himself, maybe he was just used to having her there. Husuella did not react, she just smiled and let him be. “I’m sorry for today and for everything,” he said when thinking she was already asleep. “Why do you do it?” she asked her voice cutting through the silence, “ I don’t know,” Kayden replied before the room fell silent but this time it was not an uncomfortable silence.
