chapter 14

kelvin pov My Alpha office. It was meant to be a fortress. Right now, it felt more like a stage where I was starring in a very embarrassing, very naked comedy. The scent in the air was a rich, overwhelming mix of my own cedar-and-spice, blended with Hannah’s warm vanilla and the sharp, addictive ozone of shared lust. She was breathtaking, pressed against the desk, her strong body demanding mine. This was the one place I allowed the "Kelvin" persona to truly dissolve, to be nothing but Isaac, the man who adored his mate. The low growls rumbling in my chest were pure instinct, untainted by strategy. Then came the impact. Bang! The sudden, violent intrusion shattered the moment, fracturing the blissful, heated connection between us. My shift from lover to Alpha was instantaneous and visceral: every muscle tightened, every sense flared, scanning the threat. The threat, however, was just Finn. My Beta. And he looked as if he’d just witnessed the end of the world. My mind registered the scene with devastating clarity: Hannah and I, half-clothed, tangled together, exposed. The heat I felt was no longer desire; it was pure, unadulterated Alpha-grade mortification. I heard the terrified rush of Finn's blood, smelled his shock and professional horror. The perfect Beta. The unflappable commander. Now crippled by indecent exposure. I knew, with a sinking certainty, that I would never live this moment down. Cough. Cough. Cough. Finn’s rapid, triple cough was the sound of a loyal soldier attempting to unsee an atrocity. The panic in his swift, fumbling retreat was almost painful to watch. When the door thudded shut, it felt like the entire pack had heard it. I immediately unwound from Hannah, my hands going to my clothing—a desperate attempt at damage control. But I didn't dare turn my back on her. My focus shifted entirely from the external threat (Finn) to the internal one (my Mate). The Queen is furious. And her fury is righteous. Her eyes, usually so welcoming, were iced over, jade chips staring through me. “Was that the price of our Beta’s silence? The trauma of seeing his Alpha half-naked?” she demanded, her voice a deadly silk. “Hannah, my love, I am mortified, Truly.” I had to maintain the sincere apology, despite the absurdity of the situation. I straightened my collar. “I… I forgot to lock the door.” Pathetic, Isaac. Absolutely pathetic. The most guarded Alpha in the world, and I forget the latch. “You, the most paranoid Alpha in three kingdoms, forgot to lock the door of your private office.” Her challenge was sharp, demanding accountability. “I swear, Kelvin, sometimes your instincts are entirely overridden by sheer stupidity.” “My instincts were… distracted,” I confessed, retrieving my jacket. “They were focused exclusively on my stunning mate. I offer my eternal servitude as penance.” That finally earned a twitch of her lips, a small victory I would cherish. The moment was interrupted again—this time by a cautious, polite tapping that was the polar opposite of the previous crash. It was Finn, recovering his courage. “Enter, Finn. And kindly keep your eyes fixed on the floorboards.” The command was firm, leaving no room for negotiation. Finn entered, his cheeks still flushed, his gaze glued to the polished wood. He held out the tablet like a shield. “Alpha, a runner just arrived. It’s a message from Alpha Davon. Your sister, Xian’na, is due to arrive at our borders within the hour. She is requesting a meeting and safe passage.” The name Xian’na hit me like a physical punch. Not shock, but pure, soaring relief and joy. She's here. The prophecy is real. Davon kept her safe. For a brief moment, the layers of Isaac melted away, and I was just a protective older brother. An hour? That's impossible. That's a security nightmare. My mind instantly began cycling through defenses, routes, and contingencies. “Xian’na?” I was pulled back to the present by Hannah’s voice. It was no longer cold with irritation, but burning with a sudden, fiery jealousy. She crossed her arms, eyes narrowed. “Is this your another girl, Kelvin? After the shame we just endured, you have the audacity to invite your latest conquest to our territory? An hour? That is not enough time to burn your suit, Alpha!” I stared at her, astonished and profoundly amused. The absolute power of my Queen's insecurity. My laughter was genuine, deep and rumbling in my chest, breaking the remaining tension. Finn wisely remained fixated on the floor. “My formidable Queen,” I said, embracing her tightly. “You are the only conquest I care about, and the only Queen who will ever stand at my side.” I leaned down, whispering against her temple, letting her feel the true joy in my scent. “Xian’na is my little sister. The heir. The one Davon and I, and the others, have been searching for.” The change in her was immediate. Her tension dissolved, replaced by a deep awe. “Your… your sister? The one with the Holy Blood?” “The very same,” I confirmed. She poked my chest, still slightly indignant. “Well, you couldn't have just said, ‘My sister is visiting’? You let me think you were smuggling some secret moon-eyed rogue into my castle after that spectacular display of public indecency!” “I am an Alpha of few words, my love,” I admitted, a genuine smile on my face. “And sometimes, the words fail me entirely. Now,” I turned to Finn, the humor instantly gone. The playful mask of Kelvin dropped away completely. Isaac was in control. “Send word to the border guards. Full security detail, and clear the path. Prepare the Queen’s suite. And Finn?” “Yes, Alpha?” “Lock the door on your way out.” As the door clicked shut for the third, and hopefully final, time, the lightheartedness vanished entirely, sucked away by the gravity of the situation. I released Hannah, instantly returning to strategic mode. An hour. That wasn't a request; it was an ultimatum. Davon knew the risks. He needed her out of the Red Moon Pack's radius, and he needed a full, united force. “The Queen’s suite isn’t enough,” I stated, already walking to the territorial map. I traced the winding perimeter of the Green Moon. Jerick. He was weak, pathetic, but now he was dangerous—a cornered animal given a dark weapon. Davon had mentioned the Black Wing Pack and the dark scent. “We need to sweep the entire Western quadrant. She’s bringing the Holy Wolf power with her. That’s a scent trail Jerick’s newly assembled rogues will be able to sniff out from two territories away, even if they are cowards.” Hannah understood immediately, her intelligence matching mine. “Davon sent her here for a reason. Red Moon is a sanctuary, but our territory, the Green Moon, is a fortress. He knows if anyone comes after her, it will be an Alpha war.” Exactly. Jerick was the immediate threat, but the Shadow Beast and the siphoning vision Davon reported were the true enemies. “Whatever Seraphina and the Dark Bond are planning, it’s not just an attack, it’s a trap for her power.” I tapped the heavily protected mountain passes. “We will double the sentries on the peaks and impose a complete radio silence on the outer patrols. Only encrypted texts from now on. No voice transmissions that can be intercepted.” The coordination must be perfect. This wasn't just my little sister arriving; this was the Holy Wolf coming to the most heavily fortified location on the continent. The moment she was inside the Green Moon castle, Jerick would feel the immense shift in power signatures. I activated my dedicated, encrypted communications device. It hummed softly—a lifeline to my true brothers. I need the full briefing on the training failure. I need the Keepers’ exact words. I felt a cold knot of dread. Davon was the protector; I was the strategist. We had to anticipate every move the darkness would make. I looked at Hannah, her eyes reflecting the cold, sharp focus of war. “I’m calling Davon now. We need the full briefing on the Keepers' findings and the training failure. Then, I’ll coordinate the arrival schedule with James and Samuel. They will arrive under the deepest possible cover. This meeting isn’t just about protecting Xian’na; it’s about preparing for the reign she’s about to claim. The world is changing, and we need to be ready to shield the new Queen.” This is it. The calm before the true storm. “Lock the door behind me, my Queen. I have a war to plan.”
