Chapter2

"Alright…. I've got to go; you're good?" I nodded, wanting to tell him that it was the second time he had asked me the same question, but I didn't. I guess he had enough on his shoulders to have my shitty problems as well; at least he did help me move over here since if he hadn't pleaded, in my case, Mom and Dad would never have let me move inside their house since I wasn't their favorite. "I might come over tomorrow…and you don't let anyone inside without telling me, you got that?" Mike finally looked up from his phone, his eyes going the slightest darker when I knew what he was going to tell me; if my ex showed his face around, he would come over and beat the s**t out of him. I got it. "I'll call you… If something happens…" I made another faded and tired smile when he nodded back thoughtfully, dropping whatever he had in his eyes. I had begged him to let it go. It wouldn't solve anything for him to make my former boyfriend bleed; I just wanted to forget he ever existed. "Mike…" He was getting inside his car, rolling down the window, when I walked closer, arms crossed, and begging him not to tell anyone; I didn't want people to talk about me, no more than they did coming back here with nothing to prove. Just me being this washed-up loser that doodled around with pen and paper. "… just don't tell anyone, okay?" I leaned over when he sighed, giving me another look like he had already told someone, my stomach turning, Alicia. She knew, always knew, everything that happened around here, that cunning b***h. I didn't like her any more than her brother. "I'm sorry, but I had to tell someone; she is my wife! You don't know what it feels like to get called up in the middle of the night and hear you screaming on the other side! I almost had a f*****g heart attack!" Mike was still upset, remembering when I gave up and called him, knowing I was ruining his life just as much as anyone else I got involved in. "I'm sorry too…" I didn't know what to say, pleading more with him to forgive me for calling that night, but I was so scared, and he was the only person I would call in the middle of the night. I just wished I hadn't done it. Then I wouldn't be back here, having him bark at me from the seat of his big car, and Mom and Dad wouldn't have to give out their place for free until I got my own home. "Don't be! It's that asshole; he better not be coming over, and if I find out you have gone back to him…" Mike was deepening his voice, making me whimper, trying not to cry; he didn't get it. I had loved him, and still did, a small part at least; it wasn't easy to stop loving someone, but he didn't know, since he had married the first girl, that let him get to second base! "I won't..." I whispered when Mike huffed at me, making me feel worse. His phone went off again when his eyes were back on it, as if he was just waiting for me to go back inside so he could leave. "I have to go now, or Allie will hurt me if I don't pick up Miles from soccer…" I nodded again. I got it. He needed to go get his son. I didn't know how old he was until Mike drove out and got me back here. I stared at him, giving me a sigh and making me smile at his frown. I was grateful for his help. I was. “Say hi to Alicia from me and… yeah, well… you take care…” Mike was nodding, the same as I had done, staring to roll out from the driveway where he had been shooting hopes growing up, with me sitting on the pavement staring at him and drawing in my notebooks. I turned around, walked inside the house, looked around for the second time, locked the door, and went inside my old house, where everything was as before. With a deep sigh, I knew that this was my life from now on.
