"Hi, love!" Mia's sweet voice answered from the other side. "What have you been up to?"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you what's been happening..."
"I'm not doing anything, tell me!"
Mia sounded so cheerful that it calmed me after the whirlwind of things I'd been through. Despite everything, Mia had been my friend for over 20 years; I'd lived more life with her than without her.
As soon as we started talking, time seemed to move in a completely different way. It wasn't the slow pace I'd been experiencing these past few days; it was as if all the time in the world wasn't enough for everything we had to talk about. And it wasn't. We kept talking and talking for so long about what had happened and things from the past that the only thing that stopped us was a knock on the door.
