Sargis's pov I stood frozen with my fists clenched at my sides. The door slammed softly behind her as she fled the room. Part of me wanted to chase after her. She’d looked pale and shaken, like her own body had betrayed her. Poor girl. Whatever had just happened, she was terrified out of her mind. Anyone would be. And I had let her go. Because the other part of me, protector of the realm, knew I had to get to the bottom of this first. Now. Before it spiraled. Before it grew teeth and claws and slipped out of our reach. She would likely retreat to her room, wrap herself in that strange silence of hers like a cocoon. It’s where she always went when things overwhelmed her, where she thought the world couldn’t find her. She’d be safe. For now. I promised myself I’d go to her the moment
