Chapter 1: Marry Me.

AVEN “Aaaah… —hmmm…” “Did you like it, babe? tell me you like it.” “Yes, god… I like it… more… mmmm…” I’m standing in front of my fiancé’s door while moans fill the entire penthouse, and I’m genuinely confused why this man turned the volume of his porn up this much because I know he's been obsessed with porn since the day I met him. But this time it sounds too real, and I’m already about to storm inside when— “Yes… god, Ethan… faster…” My legs freeze instantly because porn never calls out my fiancé’s name, especially followed by the sound of skin slamming against skin. I never expected to hear another woman moaning inside his bedroom on the night of our first anniversary. My hand hovers above the doorknob, hesitating for a second. What if the scene destroys me more than what I’m already hearing? Fuck it, Aven. I shove the door open, and Ethan freezes mid motion before looking at me with a face so horrified it’s obvious he never expected me to come back early from the business trip today. Then the sound of him pulling out of her follows, and honestly, I want to kill him right now. He steps out of the bed so fast he nearly trips, standing there naked with sweat and fluid glistening all over his body, and then the girl turns around too. A laugh almost escapes my throat because it’s Vanessa f*****g Clarke, the woman I hate most in my life, and he’s been sleeping with her. “Aven—babe—listen to me.” Ethan says it while standing naked in front of me. “What the f**k is this, Ethan?” I’m surprised my tongue is still cooperating with me. He tries to grab my hand, but I pull away immediately. “This is not what you think.” This time the laugh actually comes out, and I look around the room instead. His clothes are scattered across the floor while her panties are hanging off the couch. Then my eyes land on the three unopened condoms sitting on the nightstand. So he actually didn't use any protection with her, while he always insisted on one with me. “It’s not what I think? How can you still lie after I caught you red-handed?” “Babe, let me explain—” “f*****g wipe yourself before you talk to me. Jesus Christ.” I lean back in disgust while Ethan glances down at himself before looking back at Vanessa in the bed where she’s covering herself with the sheet like she’s the victim here. Ethan runs a hand through his hair and bites his lip, and honestly he looks more annoyed that I interrupted his s*x than guilty for cheating on me with her. “Aven, listen to me—” “No, I don’t want to hear anything.” My voice comes out sharper now. “I caught you sleeping with another woman with my own eyes and you still think you can defend yourself?” “You’ve been distant for weeks,” he says. “It just happened, okay? It didn’t mean anything—” “That’s your excuse?” I stare at him in disbelief. “You didn’t see me for two weeks and decided to sleep with someone else? We’ve been engaged for a year, Ethan. So that’s it? Two weeks and you just… did this?” My voice cracks halfway through the sentence, and I hate it immediately because the last thing I want is to cry in front of him while he stands there looking guilty and annoyed at the same time. “I was horny and—” Before he can finish talking, my hand slams across his cheek hard enough to make Vanessa flinch from the bed. Vanessa suddenly speaks up. “Maybe if you satisfied your fiancé properly, he wouldn’t—” “Shut the f**k up,” I cut her off so fast she freezes. “You’ve been obsessed with stealing things that belong to me since college. Congratulations. You finally managed it.” Then Vanessa laughs and says, “Ethan, why are you explaining yourself to her? Aren’t you going to break up with her anyway?” My chest tightens so fast I instantly look at him, and he snaps, “Shut up, Vanessa.” I don’t even know what the hell I’m supposed to say next. The audacity of this man is unbelievable. “Aven, we can talk about this, okay? Don’t mind what she’s saying.” This man is definitely out of his damn mind because who the hell talks like this after getting caught cheating on his fiancée? I can’t take his bullshit anymore. I try pulling the ring off my finger, but it suddenly feels tight as hell. My hands are shaking. “Aven, babe, don’t do this. I’m sorry. I won’t do it again. Can you please forgive me just this once?” My finger hurts as I pull hard. Finally, I manage to yank the ring off and throw it straight at his face. It hits him near the eye, and he hisses in pain. “Do you know what a mistake is? Forgetting to text. Forgetting to call. Forgetting the anniversary date. Not having s*x with another woman in our bed.” I’m already walking toward the door when he runs after me, and that bastard is still naked. “Aven… please don’t go.” I’m inside the elevator while he stands outside the door, somehow giving me even more trauma. “Go back, Ethan. Don’t you have something to finish?” Before the elevator doors close, I lift my middle finger at him, and he hisses, “Fuck.” I’m shaking by the time I reach the underground parking lot, and I slam the car door so hard the entire vehicle shakes with me. The scream that tears out of my throat is loud enough to hurt, and I slam my hand against the steering wheel over and over again. Fuck you, Ethan. You don’t get to live peacefully after cheating on an Arden. Wait and see what I’m going to do to you. My finger is still throbbing and leaves a red bruise. Before my brain can even process anything, I’m already hitting the gas while rain slams against the asphalt and the hood of the car hard enough to irritate me even more. Every time I blink, all I can see is his glistening body and her thighs wrapped around him. I start honking so aggressively the other cars begin honking back, and honestly I don’t even know where I’m driving until I reach the massive black gates. The Dravier Estate. If the Ardens hear their heiress came here, it's over. I honk again until the guards open the gates, instantly panicking the second they recognize the car. I slam the brakes hard enough for the entire vehicle to jerk violently before stepping out into the rain. Water drenches me immediately while I march toward the front door. I bang against the door over and over again, and every single time my fist hits the wood all I can see is Ethan and Vanessa together in that bed. After a while, the door finally opens, And there he is. Ian f*****g Dravier. The only man who ever swore to destroy me. He stands in the doorway looking half asleep at first, but his expression changes the second he sees me standing there drenched in rain. He stares down at me silently, dark eyes unreadable while rainwater drips from my hair onto the marble floor between us. I look straight at him and say, “Marry me.”
