CHAPTER 2 VIVIAN'S POV "I-I don't understand," I said, my voice trembling as I looked from him to Rebecca. She was laughing, her face a mask of cruel delight. "You don't understand?" He sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "Let me break it down for you. Who in their right mind would be mated to an Omega? I'm sure the goddess isn't so cruel to let me be stuck with such a curse." His words cut deep, each one a dagger to my heart. The crowd erupted into laughter, their derision a harsh cacophony that filled the air. My eyes darted around, taking in the sea of mocking faces, each one reflecting my humiliation. Tears welled up, but I fought them back, not wanting to give them the satisfaction of seeing me break. "The wolfless b***h is about to cry. Aww, that's so sad," Rebecca said mockingly. Her words were met with another wave of laughter. The sound was overwhelming, echoing in my mind, a relentless assault on my already fragile state. "St-stop it! Stop laughing at me!" I shouted as desperation creeping into my voice. But my pleas went unheard, as they were drowned out by their cruel amusement. In my twenty years of life, this moment was the worst. Rebecca had tormented me before, but this was beyond anything I could have imagined. Why? Because I was an Omega. Despite being my sister's blood, my own family despised me. Everyone in the pack saw me as a worthless, wolfless freak. I remembered the countless times I had prayed to the moon goddess, begging for a wolf. I had offered sacrifices, fasted, done everything I could think of, but it was all in vain. "Rebecca, wh-why are you doing this?" I asked, tears streaming down my face. Her smile was cold and unfeeling. "You really thought I found you a man? Come on, Viv! I knew you were stupid, but I didn't think you were that stupid," she mocked. I sniffed, trying to hold back more tears. "But, I don't... I don't deserve this," I said, my voice breaking. "You don't deserve anything, you pitiful Omega. Nobody wants you," Rebecca spat, her words dripping with venom. "That isn't true. Please, tell her that isn't true. You're my mate, aren't you?" I turned to the man who had rejected me, searching his face for any sign of kindness. "Yes, you're truly my mate..." He began, and for a moment, hope flickered in my heart. But then his lips curled into a devious smile. "But it's truly unfortunate. I reject you, Vivian. I would reject you a million times over. You really think because of some stupid ordainment by the moon goddess that I would mate with you? Don't be so f*****g delusional." His words shattered me, and the tears flowed freely now. "When Rebecca suggested the plan for me to act like I was interested in you, I never thought you would be so f*****g simple as to believe it, I mean come on! Would you date you?" His voice was filled with contempt. "I could never mate with you. Never! In a million years." Rebecca walked over to him, her smug smile making me feel even more worthless. "Come on, husband, that's a bit too much, don't you think?" she said sarcastically before kissing him. "Hus-husband? No. I don't believe it. Was it all a lie?" I whispered, my legs giving out as I collapsed to the ground. "Yes, Viv, he's mine," Rebecca declared, her voice dripping with hatred. I shook my head, denying the reality before me. This couldn't be true. My sister had publicly disgraced me and stolen my mate. I was powerless, as I was forced to watch this nightmare unfold. "Wh-why do this to me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. "Don't you ever get tired of that question, Viv?" Rebecca smirked, looking down at me with disdain. "You're the bane of the family, the black sheep, and a wolfless freak. It's my right to toy with you. After all, you're just trash to me." Her words shattered me completely. I looked at my mate, desperate for any consolation. I held his hand, kneeling before him. "You're still my mate. Please, accept me back. I can't bear the pain of being rejected," I begged, my voice filled with desperation. "Ugh! Is she always this clingy? It's disgusting," he said to Rebecca, who shrugged. "I'm embarrassed to call her my sister, too," Rebecca replied. He turned to me, his eyes cold. "I have already rejected you, but it seems a clearer version is needed to get it through that thick skull of yours," he said harshly. He yanked his hand away, and I fell to the ground again. "I, Ethan Winters, Alpha of the Blue Moon, reject you, Vivian Blackwood, as my mate," he declared. The rejection was like a dagger to my heart, and I sobbed uncontrollably. The mate bond connection broke entirely, leaving me in a pit of despair. Rebecca giggled at my pain. "How does rejection feel, you wolfless w***e? I bet you wish you were never born, huh? b***h!" she spat, kicking me in the stomach. I coughed and curled up on the ground, my body wracked with pain. I wasn't sure how long I lay there, but eventually, I found the strength to stand. The event was over, and everyone had left.
