Chapter Three Boiled peanuts. The shells were stained an ominous dark colour as they soaked in an oily-looking liquid. Before Thelonious could change his mind, the man at the boiled peanut stand had scooped some into a large Styrofoam cup and stuck his palm out for payment. Taking the cup back to the Mini, Thelonious sat at the steering wheel chomping through the softened casings to reach the peanuts, spitting the masticated shells out the window. He gave up halfway through, dumping the remaining peanuts onto the dirt. Noticing that the vendor had stepped away, he quickly lowered himself down from the car, took a few shots of the peanut stand, then went off in search of new subject matter.
