What? As she let go of the fork in her hands, my stepsister let out a scream.
"What is wrong, Rita?" As our gaze shifted to her, Dad inquired.
"Well, Dad, I forgot there was something I needed to do upstairs. I will return shortly."
What might be the issue with Rita? As we left the dining room to go to our rooms to freshen up.
As I got to my room , continued to look at the ceiling with tears rolling on my cheeks as I fell asleep..
"Vummmmm." My alarm. My deep slumber was interrupted by sounds.
I went to the bathroom to freshen up.
"Good morning, Lisa."
"Greetings, Aunty Nelly."
"Call me Nelly, Lisa. I'm just a maid."
"No, I won't," I replied as I walked straight to the kitchen with her.
My mother left me when I was a child, and Aunty Nelly has been my nanny ever since. She is the only person I feel like I can relate to.
"Aunty, I need to talk to you about something. Do you know that my father has proposed to me getting married shortly?"
"Mmmmm," she answered. "Yes, he did tell me about it, but as you are aware, I am only your nanny."
My heart raced as Aunty Nelly wrapped me in her comforting embrace. I inhaled deeply and stepped back to give her a brief glance.
"Aunty, I am so nervous about my dad's proposed marriage to me. I cannot get married, especially to someone I have not even met yet, and I hardly know the man. I am already engaged to someone for whom my heart beats."
I paused, feeling the tears start to flow once more. "I wish I could just be honest with Dad, but you know how he is—he always thinks he knows what's best for me. But this is not just the best for me."
“I barely have a say in this matter, but whatever plans your dad has for you are always genuine and in good interest. Everything will work out in the end, you'll see."
I nodded, hoping she was right. Just then, the sound of footsteps approaching the kitchen had us both turning towards the doorway.

**Alden's POV**
I sank back to the chair in my study my brow furrowed
"What could be the reason you want me to come urgently? You can just forward the folder to my secretary if convenient."
"This is a significant and fantastic step that will benefit us in the organisation," my dad responded.
"If you say so then dad," I said and marched my pedals for speed to get home on time.
I arrived home early, eagerly awaiting for the significant change that could alter the company's position.
"What!?" I asked, shocked at this revelation.
"I hope this is not one of your usual pranks," I questioned them. However, it does not seem like a joke, as I had assumed, so they had better be kidding.
"Hey, Alden! Come back," Dad said, jolting me out of my reverie.
"It is best you settle down right away because we are sick of you coming home from the club with countless and multiple women. That is what is best for both of us."
"I never said it was bothering me or that I wanted marriage badly; if I had, I would have already found a wife."
"Wife from the sluts you come around with?" my mother asked, giving me a sinful glare.
"Do not call them sluts, Mum! I'm not getting married to some woman I have not met before."
"That is why you should prepare for a family dinner to get to see her."
"What!?" I exclaimed. "Ain't doing this with you guys," I got up to walk out.
"Then consider your claim off my properties or inheritance," Dad said.
"What do you mean by my claim off your properties because of a mere woman?"
"Get ready to meet her, Alden," my dad said, leaving me alone with Mum in the dining room.
"Mum, what has come over Dad? What is this?"
"Alden, my son, your dad always has great plans for you."
"What do you mean great plans? This is the 21st century already, and you feel I can't make decisions myself?"
"Didn't you get to meet Dad and fall in love with him?"
"Go get ready for the dinner so you don't keep our guests waiting, Alden," Mum said and left me in my thoughts.
I paced back and forth in my room, my mind racing with different thoughts. How could my parents be so overbearing even at this age? Just because they wanted me to settle down didn't mean I am not man enough to make decisions of this nature.
A knock at the door interrupted my internal rant, and I opened it to find my younger brother, Jefferson, standing there with a sheepish expression.
"Hey, big bro," my brother Jefferson walked in.
"I'm not in for that usual play of yours, Jeff."
"What could be the problem, Alden?"
"Dad and Mum just told me of a marriage to some woman."
"Ohhh, Mr. Albernot's eldest daughter who just returned?"
"Wait, you are even aware of this, Jeff?!"
My brother's eyes turned to me with rage and outburst. "Chill, bro. I was just told of it last night and possibly I have nothing to do about it."
Moving slightly from his seat, Jefferson remarked, "But if you look at my view, she is the perfect one for you to stop all this womanizing."
"Well, you might want to give her a chance," Jefferson hesitantly said. "As far as I can tell, she seems to be doing quite well. You never know, you might even come to like her."
I arched a skeptical eyebrow. "You're actually taking their side on this?"
"Get dressed, man. No, I am not," Jeff said and left.
"Just get ready, bro," he said and left.
**** Lisa Pov***
I laughed heartily at Mercy's jokes and said, "Ohh, do not kill me, Mercy."
"You need to look beautiful to kill him with your smiles," she said.
"Ohh, don't say that, Mercy. I am red faced already."
I was made up like a doll by my childhood friend Mercy, a makeup artist, who made sure I looked chic in my snazzy black gown and clutch bag that went well with my red lipstick.
"Men would give you a lot of money to be in their lives."
I'm so hurt mercy , Didn't believe I would end up this way.
****Entrance to the Damien's house***
Along with my parents and stepsister, I marched into the house.
"Lisa, act appropriately," my father said.
I cast a contemptuous glance at my father and entered.
"Look at how beautiful you look, Lisa!" A man who appeared to be Alden's father said.
"Hello, Sire," I replied, looking around for my so-called fiancé.
"Oh, Lisa. Meet Alden," my gaze turned to him.
With Alden attempting to determine who it was between my sister and me, "You again!" left my mouth dumbfounded.
