Miles opened the door before I finished knocking.
“They’re on their way,” he said.
“Both of them?”
“You said Theo. I said Kane. If we’re doing this, we’re doing it once.”
I stepped inside. His apartment looked the same as always, but it felt different with what we were about to do. I hadn’t slept much. Theo’s question from the café kept turning over in my head, and every version of keeping silent sounded worse than the last.
Miles watched me put my jacket over the chair. “You sure?”
“No,” I said. “But he’s already too close. If he finds out from someone else, or from watching us one more week, it’ll be worse.”
Miles nodded once. “Kane too. He won’t say it straight, but he’s been putting things together.”
A knock came less than ten minutes later.
