Part 5

The girl let out another scream when the creature emerged from the bushes, and Pink's heart rate spiked. She could tell straight away that it was a fox emerging from the bush. It's quite an ugly-looking thing; the fur on it is a filthy beige, with a mix of dark colours, and it looks matted. The face is horrendous as well, with sharp, discoloured teeth bearing wide, saliva dripping down its chin. She watched its eyes, reflecting the moonlight, wide and hollow while looking at the scared girl. Looking around—her shoulders slump in a defeat. She was aware that she cannot kill this fox, the fact that she needs a deadly weapon. But also Pink knew that there was no way she was letting the girl be his prey. What? It’s not like she lacked humanity. Her food were only desperate men who were arrogant leeches and good for nothing. Rooted on her spot, she saw the fox inching closer to her, snarling, and she exhaled. Since when did foxes get so brave? She thought to herself. Then again their reputation among the creatures hasn’t been all too great. They are cunning sly creatures who always got their way. “Don’t move…Stay.” She quietly whispered at the girl before skidding to stand in front of her, acting as a shield. Up close, the fox looked even bigger. Nastier. “Sorry buddy you might do good starving tonight. Better luck tomorrow.” While keeping her eyes locked with the fox, she used her free hand to beacon for the girl to run. She sees the gesture when she gives Pink a quick glance, and she's quick on her feet to make a run for it. The creature either doesn't notice, nor care for her - since it hasn't broken eye contact. There's a stand off between both of them, and neither Pink nor the fox break the contact. She makes a small step towards it, and it bared its teeth, a low growl coming out from it. Within seconds, it seemed to make that move and it's charging directly at her. *** Pink is hit with the full force of fox weight, which was much heavier than she thought, got knocked straight to the ground. The fox was on top, both of its paws right by her head, the breath making her nose twitch. A wave of nausea hit her as she swallowed, trying to wriggle free of the vice like grip. For a hot second, the flashes of her coven blinded her—the beaming smile of her father, the soft caress of her moms hand on her hair and the ringing of her cousins laughter as they endlessly teased her. She could feel its saliva hit her in the face. It took everything in her not to grimace from it, because it's gross. The vampire bought her hands up to slam against the creature’s chest, and she used all of her force to push it off, a grin stretching across her lips. She quickly rolled onto her stomach, and stood on her feet. Pink dodged the attack and kicked it in the side when it's close enough. The fox let out a whimper, before it's growling back at her. “How’s that for starters?” Pink giggled at her own joke. That only seemed to piss the fox even more. “Tough crowd,” She murmured to herself. It only egged the fox on. The fox snarled, raising its paw and it’s too late for her to expect the gash it does on her arm. A sharp cry broke out of her as she looks at the damage, the sleeve tearing at the impact. Her feet staggered, a dull throb coursing through her whole arm when she notices the marks marring her skin. The thing with vampires is, it takes a lot for them to bleed. They are blood drinkers, sure, but they also have thick skin unaffected by everyday common sharp objects. However, the fox claws might not be one of them. Crimson liquid started dribbling down her arm, her lips parting in a gasp. It’s been a while since she was injured like this. A long time actually. The sight of her own blood made Pink flare her nostrils, eyes narrowing. “No more dessert for you!” She got into the stance, but before she could take a step further there’s a different scent wafting in the air. She froze. Different but familiar. “You again?” The Alpha let out an exasperated breath, his jaw tightening while he took a step further in her direction. Her eyes moved to his neck, the white shirt collar hiding his veins. Disappointment curled in her belly, lips twisting as she could not stare at the mark she left on his skin. What was wrong with her? Why was she so eager to find the mark on him? It’s very common for vampires to have a feeder, someone they regularly drank from and get linked with. Something about their blood coursing through vampires veins formed an attachment but it took years for that to happen. She only bit him once. As a retaliation. It wasn’t meant to make her think such weird thoughts. He cleaned up well. She thought eyeing his pin stripped grey blazer, tie loosened and hair loose, tugged on multiple times and falling in unruly pattern. There was a pinched look on his face as he refused to break eye contact. His eyes dropped to her lips. Was he thinking the same? Did the mark on his skin sting at the presence of her? Shes halfway through thinking when he made a sound. “Brad.” The Alpha turned to him, eyes turning into slits. She watched in amazement as the fox had his head hung low, like he was caught doing something he shouldn’t. Her lips parted as she watched the fox shift, the bones cracking as he stood in all glory, naked and shamelessly staring at her. The fox appeared scary in his human form, all wild, unruly and unkempt. There were cuts and marks all over his chest, like he had been attacked multiple times. His grey eyes were hollow, dark circles evident under. “Alpha Cole!” He bowed down, before taking a step. “I can explain—” She looked away as the Alpha—Cole threw his jacket in that fox’s direction, working on rolling his sleeves to his elbow. He was fully fixated on glaring at the fox for his action, almost like he was embarrassed on his behalf. Pink followed his movements, watching as the rolling of his sleeves caused him to flex, her mouth watering at the display. Focus. “Save it.” He glowered. “This is your second warning Brad! This is not your hunting ground. Next time I won’t be bothering with the niceties.” “I understand, Alpha Cole.” Brad’s mouth twisted. It appeared as if he wanted to say something, fingers curling tightly around the jacket as he held it close to his groin. The fox made a sound at the back of his throat, not bothering to respond and simply scampering away. Cole sighed. He turned to her with the same annoyed face, only his eyes didn’t seemed to soften at the sight of her arm. “What is it with you and my club? Can’t you find a new one?” Pink blinked, caught. Cole was watching her—not just watching. Glowering. Those eyes practically drilling into her skull. The voice was sharp and sudden, and it landed right in her chest, knocking the breath out of her in a way she’d never admit. Her lips curled up instinctively. “Did he do this?” “Hmm. I didn’t let him eat an innocent girl.” “Oh so you save lives now?” He sarcastically asked, eyes still not leaving the trail of blood down her arm. “One of the many things I do at night.” “He could have killed you,” He said, stating the obvious. “He did try.” Pink shrugged, wincing as she held her palm against the gash. She could feel spots dancing in front of her eyes, blinking them away. “Yeah well he’s not supposed to be here. This club…it’s a neutral territory but my land.“ The implication was clear and loud. He was also making her known that he owned the place. Of course he did. “Aye aye captain.” “You need to get that treated. Foxes…their marks are done with intent. They don’t heal like ours do. They work different.” “Thanks for heads up.” Cole fell silent. He opened his mouth as if to say something but instead shook his head. “Don’t make this a habit. Get out.” And with that he turned on his heel, body tight as he swiftly headed in the direction of his club. At that, Pink let out that panicked breath she didn't know she was clawing for, and focused on calming her heart down. ***
