The Bed Another day had drawn to an end and lights out was a few minutes away. Hideki placed his folded uniform on his bed at the same time someone else placed their uniform on the bed. He looked up in confusion to see Kaiba looking at him with a cocky smile. "Uhm... excuse me, this is my bed." Hideki said. "I think you're mistaken; this is my bed." Kiaba said. "Are you crazy?" Hideki said. Kadan walked by on his way to his bed. "Yo Kadan, tell this guy whose bed this is." Kadan rubbed the bottom of his chin in thought. "I'm not sure whose bed this is?" Hideki almost fell over from the shock. "What do you mean you don't know? I've been sleeping in this bed, next to you, for a little over two months now!" Kadan just shrugged. "Kadan knows the drill," Kaiba said. "I always go away and leave my bed vacant and some scavenger always tries to takes it while I'm away but I always come back and I always get my bed back." "Well, I don't care what you or this fool says." Hideki said, referring to Kaiba and Kadan respectively. "This is my bed!" They both leaned into each other and tried to stare each other down as imaginary lightning bolts passed between their eyes. "Okay," Kaiba said raising his hands and leaning away from Hideki. His cocky smile had returned and Hideki did not like it. "How about we play a game for the bed? I win I take my bed back, you win, you can continue to sleep in it." Hideki folded his arms over his chest and turning to the side so that he did not directly face Kaiba, "What like arm wrestling." He said not bothering to een turn his head to look at him. "No, too boring. I was thinking Roll'r Towel." Everyone who was in earshot suddenly turned their heads to the two boys. "Roll'rTowel? I don't know that game." Hideki said. "It's a traditional Academy game. The rules are fairly simple. I could explain it to you but I if your too cowardly to defend what you think is yours than you can give up the bed now." Kaiba said. Hideki felt himself getting a little angrier. Kadan leaned in closer to him and whispered, "If I were you, which any fool can see that I am not, I wouldn't do it." "Are you saying I'll lose?" Hideki said turning his body more to Kadan and away from Kaiba. Kadan kept quiet for a while in mock thinking and then he began nodding furiously, "Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying." "Shut up, Kadan." Hideki said turning his body to fully face Kaiba. "I accept!" "Alright let's go!" Kaiba said as he took a step to leave the sleeping area. "Wait! Aren't we going to get dressed first?" Hideki said. He was in his boxers and a white vest and so was Kiaba. "No time, lights out is only a few minutes away and I want to beat you fast so I can get a good night's sleep tonight... in my bed." "Huh! You wish!" Hideki said following Kaiba. Kadan and some other boys also decided to follow them too. / The group of boys were walking to the site where Roll'r Towel was going to be played. There was a slight breeze that would occasionally blow through the Academy. Hideki rubbed his arms, as he was wearing boxers, like most of the boys, and a vest, which fewer boys wore. Two of the boys in their company had buckets of water. "This wind is a bit too chilly forus to be out here in our underwear." Hideki remarked to no one in particular. "It's not so bad." Kadan said from behind him. Kadan as usual had on a small speedo. "And anyways, some of the best times in life are had when you're as naked as possible, right Kadan?" Kaiba said. "I don't know what you're talking about." Kadan said. When they reached their destination, they stopped in front of a raised wooden platform. The platform had a rectangular frame, outlined by logs cut in half. Along the platform were cylindrical logs fixed to the frame with a steel wire. Kaiba looked at the structure with nostalgia in his eyes. He looked at Hideki and smiled before hitting one of the logs and making it roll in place. "We're here!" "Oh good!" Hideki said. "Can we please start this game so that we can get back before light's out. If I get in trouble again The General and Jiang are gonna skin me alive." "Don't worry, this will be over quickly." Kaiba said, reaching into one of the buckets of water and withdrawing a wet towel. As he lifted the towel while twirling it into a tight spiral. "Here's how Roll'r Towel is played: we get on this platform and we use these towels to do combat." He said pulling back the towel back and snapping it forward into the air, causing it make a wet, SMAT noise. "The first one who hits the other in the crotch or butt three times wins." "Crotch or butt?" Hideki said razing an eyebrow. "This is starting to sound like a perverted game." "But there are a few rules: if you touch the ground outside of the frame of the platform once the match begins, you're disqualified and you lose. If you're hands touch any part of the platform once the match begins, you're disqualified and you lose. Understand?" "Seems simple enough," said Hideki also withdrawing a wet towel from a bucket. / Both boys were on the sides of the platform on the frame, facing each other from theri respective sides. Between them was the night air and the rolling logs that they would have to traverse to get to each other. The spectators were gathered around the platform in a loose circle. The breeze picked up again, causing their white sleeveless vests and black hair to flutter in the wind and a few water droplets were blown from their towels. "Ready..." A boy who was elected referee, because he had on a striped sleeping shirt, said raising his hand. "Start!" He completed letting his hand fall. Hideki and Kaiba both jumped on the nearest log in front of them. As soon as Hideki landed on his log, it began rolling back, forcing him to run in order not to fall off. He huffed as his legs became a blur and his upper body leaned forward in an effort to keep up with the speed of the spinning log. Hideki was coming dangerously close to falling over and becoming disqualified. He looked up to see Kiaba standing still on his side of the platform. Kiaba looked at the other boy struggle to stay on his fast moving feet. Kiaba began skipping forward onto each log. The logs he stepped on only moved a little once he jumped on them, showing his impressive skill. Before Hideki knew it, Kaiba stood in front of him. Hideki raised his head just in time to have his face hit by Kiaba's flicked towel end with a Smack. Hideki fell back from the hit and did a flip in mid air on his way down. He had already flew pat the platform and landed on his face on the grassy ground. "Are you okay?" Kadan asked Hideki rushing to his prone position on the ground. "Well... that was fun. Let's get back to the dorm. I'm exhausted." Kaiba said as Hideki picked his face off the ground, spitting out grass and earth. Kiaba was about to jump off the platform when Hideki spoke up, "Wait! Give me another chance. I was not ready and it was my first time." "That's what she said." Kiaba said with mirth in his voice. When no one laughed at his joke he continued. "You were told the rules and so I am not giving you another chance. I have all I wanted from you so, this contest is over." "Kadan... speak to this guy!" Hideki pleaded. Kadan was momentarily taken aback. It was the first time Hideki had asked him for anything and he felt obliged to help him. "I kinda have to agree with Hideki on this one, Kaiba. You are undefeated and you are the one who created the game so the least you could do is give him a rematch." "You created this game?" Hideki said looking up at Kaiba who still stood over them on the wooden platform. "You suck!" "Hey, don't hate the creator, hate the game." Kiaba said as he skipped to the edge of the platform. "I don't care if I am a veteran and you are an amateur. The fact is that I win and you lost, that's all that matters." Kaiba was about to jump off the platform when he was stopped again when Hideki shouted, "I'll do your chores if I lose again!" There were gasps and Kaiba looked at him, curiously. "You'll do my next set of chores if I win?" Hideki nodded. "Come on Hideki, chores for a bed? You're over betting!" Kadan told Hideki as he helped him to his feet. Hideki's check brushed up against Kadan's red, Mickey mouse printed speedos on his way to his feet, prompting him to push Kadan away."This is none of your business." Kadan stepped back, "Then don't make it my business! Don't ask for my help if you don't want me to tell you when you're being stupid!" He said finally losing patience with Hideki. "This is me not asking!" Hideki said to him before turning to Kaiba. "So...? Do we have a deal?" "Of course we do." Kaiba said before looking at Kadan. "But if I was you, which I'm not cause my name is Kaiba, I wouldn't... make this deal, I mean. I wouldn't make this deal." They both dipped their towels into a bucket of water before taking their respective positions on the platform. This time they had changed sides to ensure fairness. Hideki rubbed his face which had become pink from the towel shot to the face he received during the last match. 'Keep balanced, keep balanced.' Hideki thought to himself repeatedly as he mentally prepared himself. "Ready...!" The referee said raising his hand for the second time that night. "Start!" Both boys jumped on the rolling logs in front of them again. Hideki was determined to keep the logs under his feet under his control. He moved his feet as it began to roll but it did not roll as fast as the last time. He was able to jump to the next log and so on, at a steady pace. Kiaba skipped forward, approaching Hideki at a faster pace. Soon they were face to face in the middle of the platform. Hideki was struggling to keep his balance on the log he was currently lightly shuffling his feet on. He got an idea and placed his other foot in the log in front of him to steady himself. It worked! However, it did leave him open for Kaiba's attack. As Hideki prepared his own towel, Kaiba snapped his towel into the area between Hideki's legs, causing sounds of' oooh' to erupt from the group of boys watching the action. "Kiaba, you jerk." Hideki said with a pained expression on his face as he sunk lower to the ground from the pain spreading across the lower part of his body. To avoid falling over and being disqualified, his legs began to stretch out either side of him and over more of the rolling logs. His joints began making cracking sounds on his way down and soon he was doing a split that looked extremely uncomfortable and impossible, unless one was Van Dam. Kaiba saw an opportunity to strike again. He flicked the wet towel to Hideki's face who was at a lower position since his legs had stretched out on the logs. The towel hit Hideki's face but it did not snap back like Kaiba expected it to. He tried to pull it back but the towel stayed firmly attached to Hideki's face. He realised that Hideki was biting the towel, stopping its movement. Hideki said something but his words were muffled by the towel in between his shut teeth. Kaiba leaned forward, closer hear Hideki better. "What?" Kaiba said. Hideki let the end of the towel fall from his teeth so he could speak clearly. "I said, come closer so that I can do THIS!" Hideki shot his towel into Kaiba's face with such force that when it hit him it made a completely new sound: SMLAPTKA! Kaiba withdrew from Hideki and put his face in his hands as he moaned in pain. The vicious attack stuned him enough that he lost his perfect from. He was desperately trying to keep his balance as he shifted around the platform on the rolling logs. Simultaneously, Hideki got up by putting his legs together like he was reversing the process he had taken to split them apart. A few more joints cracked back into place as he returned to a standing position. Kaiba had finally stopped moving around and was now standing in one place, having regained his balance. Hideki side shuffled towards the current position of Kiaba who still had his face in his hands because of the pain. Hideki now stood close enough to hit him with the towel. He flicked it forward but Kaiba retreated back just as the end of Hideki's towel was inches from his crotch. "Come back here you coward!" Hideki said in frustration. Kaiba looked up to reveal that his face now had the same mark that Hideki had, only much more intense and covering more of his face. Kaiba kept repeatedly touched his nostrils, "I think you may have made me bleed." "What? You're bleeding?" Hideki said before looking at the referee. "That's got to be some kind of disqualification." The referee simply shook his head no. "Alright, I'm finishing this." Kiaba said adopting a more serious look. "Bring it," Hideki said twirling one end of the towel. Kaiba began skipping forward but unlike the other times, the logs he left behind began spinning furiously. Kaiba skipped to the side, avoiding Hideki. He skipped on the log Hideki was on and left it, causing it to roll. Hideki was forced to run in place to stay on his feet. Kaiba looked back disappointed that Hideki had not fallen but he did return to the log just next to Hideki's and began using his foot to pump the log that Hideki was on, making it roll faster. Hideki's arms flayed open as he tried to keep his balance while running backwards on the rolling log. He realised what Kaiba was trying to do. He was hoping to disqualify him by making him fall. "Kaiba, you coward! Fight me like a man!" "Who says what I'm doing is not manly? It takes serious leg muscles to do this." Kaiba said as he sped up his pumping foot to make the log roll even faster. The log was spinning too fast which made Hideki lose his footing. For a moment, Hideki was in the air with his hands flaying about wildly. "Kaiba, you as... oof!" Hideki was about to say but he hit the platform floor before he could complete what he was saying. The logs dug into his back but instantly stopped rolling when he landed on them Hideki moaned as he saw stars in his eyes; whether they were real stars of the night sky or stars born from his fall, he was too out of it to know. Kaiba appeared in his line of sight with a mock pained look on his face. "That looked like it hurt!" Kaiba said. "If I were you I'd find a soft place to sleep off that injury... oh well enjoy your night on the floor." Kaiba said before getting off the platform and leaving with the rest of the other boys. Hideki laid there recovering as he saw, in the corner of his eye, the other boys leaving. Hideki sighed as e began getting up, "I hate that guy." / Hideki walked to the dorm before lights out. He was so panicked at being caught after lights out that he ignored the pain he still felt form his fall and jogged to catch up with the other boys. He reached the entrance of the dorms simultaneously with the boys who had left before him. They found Major Jiang waiting for them at the entrance of the door. The Major looked at his watch and raised an eyebrow to the newly arrived boys. "It's two minutes before lights out. You guys are cutting it close, aren't you?" Hideki involuntarily gulped. He had not tasted The Discipliner yet and wanted to keep it that way. The assembled boys collectively mumbled their apologies. Major Jiang nodded, letting it slide. "I'm here for you, Kaiba." "Me? I don't understand, sir. Did I do something wrong?" Kaiba said. "No," Major Jiang said. "I'm here to take you to your room." "I'm not sleeping in the dorm?" "No, we have a room for you. Newly built for our senior students." Major Jiang said. "If you'll follow me. And the rest of you boys better get to bed or else..." Hideki could not help but smile. This meant that he did not need to sleep on the floor tonight or ever for that matter. Kaiba passed him following Major Jiang; he stopped on the way to whisper something to Hideki. "Don't be too happy, remember, you still have to do my chores."
