Narrator Alarick quickly began to realize that he had to become more careful about what kind of people Emily was around. He knew the Pack wouldn't accept her as their Queen. How could they? They have been groomed into thinking that there was only one superior race in the world. Alarick definitely wasn't ashamed of his mate, but the Pack would disown her. Of course Alarick can force respect, but he can't force them to genuinely like her. For thousands of years Alarick's pack has kept interracial mating out of the blood line. It was a tradition that was formed by his great grandparents.  This would mean a Vampire couldn't be with a werewolf , a Fae couldn't be with a Lycan , a white man couldn't be with a black woman. etc. This caused discrimination towards race , religion , and species throughout the Kingdom. One thing the Council couldn't control is how he ran his Kingdom. It was a great thing that Alarick was born a Lycan King. He could get away with more. He could literally re- write the laws of his Kingdom. It is the 21st century and people still have to deal with what his mate just went through. Racism is what he was determined to fix in his society. It is very shameful that it took him this long to actually consider fixing the problem. Emily I heard everything that was said about me up there in his room. Zamora says that it's bad to eavesdrop on other people's conversations, but I couldn't help myself. It hurt me. I now know that I would be the odd one out in the Kingdom. I just got here. And they all hate me. Alarick came jogging down the stairs with a frown on his face. "Zamora? Does he hate me?" No answer. I was getting a little worried about Zamora. Huge white crocodile tears ran down my face. But I quickly wiped them off. "I-Is something wrong?" He kneeled down next to my chair and grabbed onto my thigh. "Listen Emily... I have to be honest with you. There will be people who are not going to like you. It might be because of how you look or what you are, but you don't have to worry about being at the bottom of the totem pole anymore... Do you know why?" I wiped another tear away and shook my head no. I don't even know what a totem pole is.  "Because you are a Queen now Emily. And there is absolutely no one who can change that."  I stayed quiet , but he spoke up again.  "I am pleased to know that you can hear that far." I just shrugged my shoulders. Was it that obvious that I was listening?
