Chapter 3 The Bond Awakens

1452 Words
Aria’s heartbeat thudded in her chest like a drum as she followed the men to another section of the woods. She didn’t understand why, but being near the men made her feel happy and scared at same time. “What’s your name?” Rowan asked. “A…Aria.” “I am Rowan, this is Dante and Kael,” Rowan said, with a devilish smirk on his face. “We can’t let her stay here unmonitored,” Kael said, his voice steady but laced with tension. “If the pack discovers this bond before we understand it, chaos will follow. She’s ours… and that makes her dangerous.” Rowan, leaning against a nearby tree with his arms crossed, shook his head slowly. His dark eyes were calm, analytical, but something in them betrayed concern. “Control isn’t the answer. Logic is. We need to observe her, understand the bond before acting. Rushing in will only escalate things. Do you think the pack will simply accept our claims without proof?” Dante circled them, light on his feet despite the tension that radiated from his body. His eyes sparkled with mischief, but the underlying intensity made Aria’s skin prickle. “Logic and control can wait,” he said, voice smooth, teasing, but dangerous in its undercurrent. “The truth doesn’t wait for rules or politics. We owe her honesty… if she’s going to survive in this world, she needs to know what’s happening. And besides,” he added, glancing at her with a grin that didn’t quite reach his eyes, “the forest already knows. We might as well let her in on it too.” Aria shrank back slightly at the exchange. Her pulse pounded against her chest, each word from them stirring something inside her. Something raw. Something she couldn’t control. She pressed her hands to her stomach, trying to ground herself. But the closer they moved, the more intense the sensation became. It wasn’t fear. It was… something else. Something primal and unrelenting. She flinched as Dante stopped behind her and let his hand hover in the air, just out of reach. “Relax,” he murmured, low and teasing, “I won’t bite… not yet.” Her stomach twisted. She hated that his proximity made her pulse spike, made her blood race and her body respond in ways she didn’t understand. And yet… part of her wanted it. Kael’s lips pressed into a firm line. “This isn’t a game,” he said sharply, stepping closer, blocking her retreat. His wolf growled under the surface, and she felt it resonate in her chest. His presence was suffocating, protective, impossible to ignore. “We’re not debating whether she’s ours. The bond has chosen her. The question is how we act before anyone else notices.” Rowan’s hand rose slightly, almost a gesture of restraint. “We act carefully. Strategically. One wrong move, and the pack will see this as a challenge, not a protection.” Dante let out a short laugh, low and dark. “Strategic? Please. We’re all wolves. Rules be damned. She’s ours. That’s enough strategy for me.” Aria’s head spun. She wanted to speak, to say something, anything, but her words faltered. Her voice sounded distant, as though coming from someone else entirely. Something was rising inside her, a warmth that spread from her chest to her limbs, pulsating with a rhythm she couldn’t name. Her eyes flicked to Kael, then Rowan, then Dante. They were tense, their bodies taut with unspoken frustration. Their wolves were restless, their possessiveness spilling into the air in subtle ways that made her skin crawl and tingle at the same time. Every muscle in their bodies was primed to protect her, dominate her, and claim her. Aria realized, in a shocking instant, that the bond wasn’t just a theory. It was real. It pulsed beneath the surface of their human forms, an invisible tether connecting her to three powerful wolves, and she could feel it. A rustling in the trees drew her attention. A few pack members had emerged from the shadows, curious eyes widening as they noticed the strange tension between the human girl and the three men. Whispers rippled through the clearing, soft but sharp, cutting into the heavy air. “She shouldn’t be here.” “Is that… a human?” “The Alphas… they’re acting… strange.” The murmurs were enough to spike Aria’s heart into overdrive. The warmth in her chest flared violently, shooting through her body like electricity. Her knees buckled, and she felt dizzy, overwhelmed by the sudden surge. Kael’s hand shot out instinctively, gripping her shoulder with an iron strength that made her wince. “Step back!” he commanded, voice low but resonant, reverberating through the clearing. Rowan stepped closer, arms raised slightly, calm but firm. “Do not let them provoke you. Stand still. Control you’re…” He stopped, realizing that she couldn’t control the surge. Dante’s grin was gone, replaced by a rare seriousness. “Relaxing isn’t an option right now,” he said softly, his eyes locked on hers. “Feel it, accept it, but don’t fight it. Not yet.” Aria felt her vision blur. The warmth in her chest intensified, spreading like fire through her veins. It was intoxicating, terrifying, and strangely comforting all at once. She didn’t know how to stop it… or even if she wanted to. One of the pack members, a younger wolf with curiosity too strong for his own good, stepped forward. “Who is she?” he asked, voice trembling, unsure. The moment the words hit her ears, the bond reacted violently. Aria’s body shuddered as an invisible force surged through her. The three Alphas tensed immediately, their instincts snapping in unison. Kael growled low, protective; Rowan’s eyes sharpened, calculating the threat; Dante’s lips pressed into a thin line, danger radiating from him like heat. The young wolf stumbled backward, eyes wide with shock. The bond, reacting to the question, had pulsed outward, and he felt it too… a force he couldn’t understand, a surge of energy that made him instinctively bow his head in submission. Aria’s own chest heaved. Her hands trembled, fingers curling as she pressed them against her body, trying to contain the raw energy she felt coursing through her. Fear gripped her, sharp and immediate. This power, this bond, terrified her as much as it drew her toward them. Kael stepped closer, lowering his head until it was almost level with hers. “It’s okay,” he murmured, voice soft but firm. “You’re safe. You belong with us. No one can touch you.” Rowan’s hand hovered near hers, not touching, but his presence steadying. “Breathe. Feel it, yes… but control it. You’re stronger than you know.” Dante crouched slightly, level with her shoulders, eyes dark and unreadable. “It’s yours too, Aria. The bond… its part of you. Don’t fight it. Not yet. But don’t forget… it can protect you, or it can destroy.” She looked from Kael to Rowan to Dante, feeling the pull of each one. The warmth, the protection, the desire… it was overwhelming. Her pulse thundered in her ears, and she shivered at the intensity of it. A rustle in the shadows reminded them all that the pack was still present. Whispers had started to spread faster now… rumors about a human girl in the forest, a girl who had survived the wolves’ circle and now stood with three of the most powerful Alphas the territory had ever seen. Far off, hidden in the distance, a presence watched. Selena Ravencroft. Aria did not know her yet, but the female’s piercing gaze lingered on the clearing, her lips curling into a calculating smile. She had noticed the girl. She had noticed the bond. And she would not let it go unanswered. Aria’s body shuddered again, this time with a mixture of fear and awakening power. She pressed her palms to her chest, feeling the bond pulse violently, as if it had a life of its own. The Alphas flinched at the surge, instinctively moving to shield her, but she could not see them clearly. The first wave of panic had passed, replaced by a realization that she was far from ordinary, and far from safe. She looked at the three men, their expressions unreadable but filled with unspoken conflict. None of them would admit it. None of them would speak the truth aloud . But the bond had awakened. And the consequences were only just beginning. “Go and continue your life. But be back,” Dante said and before he could continue, Aria had sprung on her heels.
