As they dug into their dessert, Claudia tried to speak to Geoffrey in her limited English. Looking pointedly at Julia, she asked, “Señor, how you like España?” “Very well,” he replied. “Even though it’s almost winter, it isn’t terribly cold the way it is in England, and the sun shines more often.” She didn’t understand all of that, but she did get the gist. “You want to stay?” “Stay? You mean live here?” “Sí.” “I suppose I could. I would have to learn Spanish though.” Claudia looked to Vidal, not understanding. He translated. The meaning of Geoffrey’s words made her smile. “We teach.” “We?” “I teach. Señora Sánchez help.” Julia heard her name and looked up. Her eyes narrowed and she treated Claudia to a rapid barrage of words hissed under her breath. Claudia responded in kind. T
