Richard"s coronation was the most magnificent in the history of the kingdom. Denys, thrilled to be part of it, beamed with pride at Valentine"s achievements, but doubt tormented her when he readily accepted his position as Chancellor of England.
King and peerage rode through the streets of London to the coronation in unequaled magnificence among magnates, prelates, knights and household attendants. The crowds cheered along the entire route from the Tower to Westminster. Richard, finally out of mourning for his brother, looked truly regal draped in a purple velvet ermine-trimmed robe over a cloth-of-gold doublet. Pages surrounded him, draped in white robes. Anne, weak and frail, rode in a richly decorated litter, attended by crimson and blue satin-clad ladies on horseback.
