My father's eyes paused from its movement as he stopped reading. His nonchalant expression changed instantly, and he finally looked up from his newspaper. He glanced at my mother, who was watching us with interest.
“Didn’t I tell you not to worry about her!” His voice was gruff and hard, remaining resolute with a hint of warning.
I shook my head instantly, trying to avoid the fact I wanted to hurt her. “No, no, father. It’s nothing like what you’re thinking. I’m just……..”
“I’m just trying to see the difference that Jace’s mate has to me. You know the saying, "No one can replace the beauty of a wolf’s mate,” I laughed softly, trying to let him take in the joke but his face remained impassive. Dammit.
