The silence between us nagged at me to say something before this window closed. But my mouth was slow to catch up as I stared at her, completely taken aback by her question. Of all the things I could’ve predicted her asking, this wasn’t on my radar.
“You know the answer. Why won’t you say it?” Yeger asked.
He was right. I knew the answer to her question, so why can’t I just say it? Why was I suddenly tongue-tied and unable to move my lips?
“You think she won’t believe you?”
