CHAPTER 27 Selene rubbed her eyes and climbed out of bed. The ache from the previous day still clung to her limbs, but curiosity nudged her forward. She padded downstairs in her slippers and glanced around the empty living room. She spotted one of the maids clearing the kitchen island. “Where’s Damien?” Selene asked, folding her arms. The maid looked up. “He left earlier this morning, ma’am.” Selene frowned. “Left? Did he say where?” “No, ma’am. But he said he wouldn’t be back till later.” Selene muttered, “Of course he wouldn’t.” Just then, the doorbell rang. The maid went to answer it. A young woman stepped in, wheeling two shiny suitcases behind her. Long braids, glossy lips, a tight dress, and confidence that walked in before she did. “Hi. I’m looking for Damien Lancaster,”
