Seraphina's POV Beta Gregg refused to waste one minute more the moment I leave my room. We are in the car faster than my mind can follow, and moving away from the pack house before my brain can catch up with my body. I turn towards the two-story building that is our pack house to see my father’s back as he’s heading back inside. I did not even get to say good bye to him. Frowning, I turn back to the front, Eyeing beta Gregg like all it is his fault. “Have you ever left this territory?” he asks suddenly, glancing at me through the rear-view mirror. I shake my head before looking out the window at the place that I have spent the last twenty years. Although it never felt like home, leaving it still feels weird and that makes me tear up. I lower my head immediately, wiping away the tear. “Well, consider yourself lucky.” Beta Gregg says. “Most people never get to leave their pack till the day they die.” Is that supposed to make me feel better? I’m leaving the only home I’ve known. Maybe I should be happy. I was going to make my father proud and not seeing Kristen for a long time is an added bonus. I want to ask about the Lycan King, the man whose bride I am going to become, but for some reason, I can’t seem to choke out the words. I keep my hands in my laps, fidgeting with them until sleep slowly takes me away. The sound of a door closing shut wakes me from my sleep. I stir, dabbing my mouth with the back of my hand. I scanned around me to see that the vehicle we are traveling in has stopped in front of a gigantic castle. Our pack house seems like a tiny cabin compared to this magnificent structure made of glass and metal. I stare, stunned until I hear Beta Gregg’s voice, asking me to get out of the car. “We are here?” I mutter, unable to bring myself to stop looking at the house. “Yes, we are here.” He says, pulling me out of the car with one hand. “You don’t want to keep the Lycan King waiting.” He says and begins walking forward, leaving me to trail after him. We walk through several doors, I lost count at ten when I was busy admiring the grandeur of the mansion. Finally, after passing several rooms and hallways, Beta Gregg stops in front of a huge oakwood door and knocks. The moment a grunting sound reaches our ears, Beta Gregg pulls the door open and invites me in. The space we are in is an office with beautiful top-to-bottom that has the most stunning view I ever laid eyes on. There’s a desk in the middle of the room and a huge figure hunked down. He looks up the minute we enter and all breath is knocked out of me. This man could easily be the most handsome man I ever laid eyes on – I’ve not seen many men but he is breathtaking and my heart starts to run a marathon when his intense grey eyes settle on me. Just like Beta Gregg did in my father’s study, the man gives me a once over before turning his attention to beta Gregg. Is this her?” he asks. His voice is a high - pitched resolve deep in my stomach and embarrassing. My gasping for breath hustled as I struggle to take air into my lungs “This is my chosen bride?” This is the Lycan King? He stands to his full height and I stumble back, almost falling to the ground. His dominance presses over me, suffocating me and my wolf into submission. I wonder how it is that beta Gregg is yet to die since he’s always in his presence then I remember that he is also a Lycan. Before I can blink, the Lycan appears in front of me. This time, I’m knocked back by the sheer force of his power. His hands go under my chin, tilting my head up until I’m looking into his eyes. “Name?” He growls. His voice reverberates in my belly, causing wetness to pull in my underwear. I tighten my legs together as if that would stop me from feeling all these things towards a man I barely know. “S-Seraphina,” I croak. He glances at Beta Gregg, who for some reason is still in the room. “This is his eldest daughter?” Beta Gregg nods. “Yes.” He focused on me, his eyes scanning over my body in a way that makes me want to vanish. “How old are you? Fifteen?” I grit my teeth. Do I look that little to him? “Twenty.” I bite out. “I’m twenty and I am my father’s eldest daughter.” I speak the lie through gritted teeth, then peek up at him from under my lashes to see if he believes me. His blank expression gives nothing away. “Take her to her room.” He says and begins walking away. What? That’s all? We’re done? Beta Gregg immediately appears by my side and begins to lead me away. We are almost to the door when the Lycan King stops us with a low grunt. “The wedding is scheduled to happen next week. It is so that your father can prepare to bring himself here. It will be nothing big. The only people in attendance will be the council and your father.” Beta Gregg leads me away after that, taking me back the same way we came except now instead of going down, we go up. He stops in front of another door which is not as big as the one at the Lycan King’s office and throws it open before turning to me. “This will be your quarters.” I glance into the room and the first thing my eyes go to is the floor-to-ceiling window that overlooks a lake. There’s a balcony outside it and a plethora of plants. Goddess, it’s beautiful. “There’s a bathroom and walk-in closet that has already been filled with clothes. An omega will be assigned to you. She will help you with whatever you need.” I open my mouth to say thank you but he is already gone before the words come out, rushing away as if he can’t stand to be in my company another minute. I bite my bottom lip as I return my focus to the room. Two of my bedrooms back at my pack at home could fit in here and there will still be space and I have a walk-in closet? I am going to be living the dream. Kristen will be so jealous if she sees this. Like I said before, what could go wrong with this day? The bed is cozy as I lean on it. I’m almost dozing off when a sharp knock on the door puzzled me awake. I jump to a sitting position. The knock sounds again and I stare at the door. “Who’s there?” I call out. The door squeaks open slowly and a brunette girl glanced into the room with a smile on her face. “You’are Seraphina?” she questioned, slipping in and shotting the door with a quiet click behind her. “I am supposed to bring you to supper.” My stomach grumble at the mention of food and my fingers flick tightly around the sheets on my bed. I steal a glance at the omega only to see her grinning. “Don’t worry, Seraphina. There’s plenty of food at the table.” I rise gradually , scanning around the room one last time before following her out. “What’s your name?” I ask once we are out in the hallway.“Rose.” She answers almost immediately. I nod, biting hard on my bottom lip. “Rose, do you know if the Lycan King will be at the table?” She turns around immediately, her smile fading. “Oh, Seraphina. Omegas like us aren’t allowed at the Lycans table. We’ll be eating in the kitchen and I promise it will be fun.” What?
