Lowly Omega

1047 Words
Seraphina's POV Omega. The words slink through my bones, settling in my feet. I am going to be an outcast even here? Omegas were at the bottom of the food chain in werewolf hierarchy. They are low lives and weaklings – my father’s words. And that is exactly what I am. I am an Omega, and for that reason alone, my father despises me. He was an Alpha – one of the most powerful – and from the pure blood line for that matter. Alpha blood should be running through my veins like my sister. Instead, I ended up being a lowly omega. And I was punished for it. Even now, when I think I have run far away from home. “After your union with Lycan Fabian has been consummated, then you can start eating at the Lycan table.” Rose explains. She stops in front of a door and throw it open, glancing over her shoulder to beam at me. “For now, you eat with us!” I peer over her to see a group of about ten people – both males and females, old and young – sitting around a long table filled with different assortments of food. All eyes around the table turns to us and I have the urge to hide behind Rose. I stand tall instead, tilting my chin up to appear confident. In a week, I am going to be their Luna and by the next full moon, I will be carrying the future of the werewolf community. Murmurs ring around the table and I hear Rose chuckle beside me before her finger wrap around my wrist and she pulls me towards them. “Guys, meet Seraphina. She’s Lycan Fabian’s chosen bride!” she announces, clapping her hand like it is the most interesting thing that can ever happen. In a way, it is. It is not every day that you see a union between an omega and a Lycan. I hear someone snorts. Snapping my attention back to the present. “Stop being so shallow, Rose.” A girl says. Her eyes fall to me and she gives me the most vicious look ever. If eyes could kill… I’m sure she rivals my sister in that department. “Look at her, she is an omega like us, if not Lycan Fabian would never have asked her to our table. Stop making her feel so special.” “What’s that to you, Lily?” Rose fires back. The sweet smile on her face morphs into a scowl which is currently directed at the Lily girl. “Whether Omega or not, she’s going to be our Luna, show her some respect!” Lily rolls her eyes and is about to say something back when the sickening sound of hand meeting wood resonates into the air, followed by a booming voice. “That’s enough, you two!” the voice bellows, startling me. An older woman steps forward – did the voice belong to her? – keeping her eyes on me. You are welcome to join us, Seraphina.” She says in a calmer tone. “All of us here, including Lily over there, are all omegas. But consider this a temporary arrangement till you become Lycan Fabian’s bride.” I bob my head, allowing the woman to guide me into one of the two empty seats on the table. Rose settles into the one beside me and picks out two empty plates. When she’s done filling them with food, she drops one in front of me. “Ignore her.” She whispers, taking a bite of food. “Lily is angry and miserable and thinks everyone should be like her.” I swallow. I am hungry but eating no longer appeals to me. All I want to do is return to my room and cry myself to sleep. “Eat.’ Rose whispers again, nudging me in the rib with her elbow. I glance around the table, thankful that no one is paying us any attention, except Lily who is staring at me as if she can suddenly possess laser vision and burn a hole through my forehead. Taking Rose’s advice, I look away, concentrating on my untouched plate. “The lady that helped us earlier?” Rose says in-between mouthful. “That’s Tricia. She’s a healer. One of the best.” She grins. I glance over at the woman called Tricia. She is beautiful with jet black hair and a mouth that draws into a thin line that suggests that she’s always in deep thought. From her physical appearance, she shouldn’t be more than thirty and I look away when she looks up and catches me looking at her. “Seraphina?” I look up when I hear my name to see Tricia filling my plate with more food. “Feel comfortable, alright? Everyone here is family.”She gives me a warm smile. “So, what pack are you from?” I grasped a deep breath to soothe my nerves before answering. “Blood-wolves pack. My father is Alpha Haynes.” Rose gasps beside me and I hear other audible gasps around the table, but Lily is the only one who speaks. “Are you sure you aren’t lying? Look at her, does she look like the daughter of an Alpha as powerful as Alpha Haynes? Does she really look like she has pure-blood running in her veins?” she scoffs, rolling her eyes. “Well, I’m sure she’s not lying.” Tricia argues, sneering at Lily. “The council would not have chosen her for Lycan Fabian if she wasn’t of pure blood. Besides we are all aware that the essence of this union is creating an heir and Lycan Fabian cannot do that with someone who isn’t of pureblood.” “I told you,” Rose leans in beside me. “She’s miserable and unhappy, so she wants to drag everyone down that hole with her.” “Besides, Alpha Haynes is the only werewolf left from the pureblood lineage.” Tricia finishes, Lily kicks herself out of the table, rattling plates and cutleries. She scowls at me before turning around and marching away. “Good r iddance.” Rose comments. “C’mon, go ahead and eat.”
