Chapter Ten The Gala Day When in doubt, hug a tree. It was the Gala day and the last place I wanted to be. However, knitted coat hangers were waiting and I was committed, along with Sheryl’s Stephen, who had also been asked to hand out prizes for the short story competition, a first for Ardrishaig. It was Chubby’s idea. It was her first year on the committee and she was keen to make her mark. The first prize was a story called I Know a Place Within a Place, and was set in Lochgilphead, about a female shinty player who wanted to come out. By all accounts it was a touching story and well worth the first prize of being published in the paper, along with a free meat pack from Chubby.
