Chapter Nineteen Domestic Bliss Domestic bliss is complex but achievable It was the day of Rodger’s birthday, the day he got the all clear to come home and his new boyfriend was going to collect him. In three weeks my life had changed from making coffee for a partner who refused to speak, and wondering why, to knowing why and wishing I didn’t. Heading out was the last thing I wanted to do. I wanted to close the shop, go home and hide by the Bag Lady’s fire, maybe read a story from her scrapbook. But I needed the keys to the community centre store cupboard. Which meant visiting Lumpy’s flat and witnessing the domestic bliss of him and Mavis, which was also the last thing I wanted to do. I had just received a note and was in a mood that even one of Rodger’s homemade brews wouldn’t cure.
